Nigeria’s Senate President, David Mark Says “Hatred Causes Insurgency”

The Senate President, David Mark, on Sunday attributed the terror activities of the violent Islamic sect in the north-eastern part of the country to lack of love and high level of intolerance among the people.

He has therefore urged Nigerians to re-dedicate themselves to the task of building a progressive and united nation that would be the dream of all citizens of the country.

Mark, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, stated this in a speech read on his behalf by his wife, Helen, during the distribution of Christmas gifts to his constituents at the Benue South Senatorial District.

“What our nation is experiencing presently is the fallout of the deficiency of love and tolerance. We must come together in one accord to confront all forms of social vices and insurgency ravaging our land,” he said.

Mark told his people to remain steadfast in prayers and support the incumbent administration, saying “we must continue to maintain peace and order.”

The senate president urged Nigerians not to despair by the myriads of challenges facing their country but “to renew faith in God because through prayers and cooperation with each other, we can surmount our problems .”

He warned politicians against blaming one another for the challenges confronting the country but to be rather united with a purpose and support to authorities.
