The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has continued its effort at reconciling with former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the race for the 2015 general elections draw closer.

Obasanjo has distanced himself from the party insisting that he will not have anything to do with the party. Obasanjo among other things is particularly angry with Jonathan over his second term ambition. This is because Jonathan had agreed to serve for just one term.

Obasanjo wrote an open letter to the President earlier this year in which he decried the approach the President has adopted to tackle the Boko Haram Insurgents in the North East.

The visit of Senate President David Mark to Obasanjo last week wa part of the PDP moves to get Obasanjo back into their fold.

The latest attempt to get Obasanjo’s attention came from the National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu who begged the former President and called for his return.

Muazu said this while receiving former Governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel who defected back to the PDP from the Labour Party.

Gbenga Daniel had earlier begged Obasanjo for forgiveness and said every member of the PDP ought to do same.

In reaction, Mu’azu said , “I want to join OGD, I want to join my dear senior brother and indeed all the teeming members here to very sincerely apologise to our leader, to our baba, my baba, General, President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to forgive us.

“We cannot continue. I know he has been very prayerful. In the Villa, I know he used to pray every morning. Very early, 5:30 to 6am, he is praying.

“And I know he keeps on praying all the time. As we say in our Lord’s Prayer: ‘Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who trespass against us’; Baba, you have to forgive us. I beg you in the name of the Almighty God, so that you too can be forgiven. We are your children. We are making mistakes, we have made mistakes, we have apologised.

“We will not agree even if you want to throw the baby away with the bath water, the baby will not go without you.

“So, please baba, we apologise. Come and lead us. Even the President (Goodluck Jonathan) is waiting for you. Come and lead us. You are our leader, we appreciate you, we thank you for your leadership.

“We thank you for your courage. And we assure you that by the grace of God, we are all good boys and girls.”

Senate President, David Mark who is believed to be one of Obasanjo’s favourite political sons also repeated this same plea.

He said “Daniel is right that older persons are always right. All of us in the PDP are begging Baba to forgive us even if he is annoyed with us.”

Obasanjo held a meeting with the President at the Aso Rock Villa in early August on the invitation of the President but not much came of the meeting with Obasanjo still maintaining his distance from the party. He has even been receiving opposition leaders. APC National leader, Ahmed Tinubu visited him the same day Mark came to Abeokuta.
