Only Jonathan Can Determine Running Mate For 2015 Election – Presidency

The Presidency today stated that it was up to President Goodluck Jonathan to determine who will be his running mate in the 2015 presidential election Saharareporters gathered.

Rufai Alkali, a political adviser to President Jonathan, also stated that the adoption of Mr. Jonathan as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was as a result of wide consultations among party members.

Mr. Alkali, a former professor, made the statements at a press conference in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. He noted that so much noise had been made about the position of Vice President Namadi Sambo, but explained that only the president has the power to choose his running mate.

“I don’t know why people will continue to over-flog the issue of the vice president. Why don’t you wait for him (President Jonathan) to accept before any other thing on the fate of the Vice President,” Mr. Alkali said.
