Liverpool Advance In League Cup After Beating Middlesbrough 14-13 In Penalty Shoot Drama

Liverpool had advanced to the fourth round of the league cup but they had to pass through Middlesbrough’s furnace as they won 14-13 in a penalty shootout drama after scores stood at 2-2 at the end of extra time.

Liverpool took the lead in front of home fans in the ninth minute when Jordan Rossiter scored on his debut. In the second half, Middlesbrough equalized through an Adam Reach header.

After normal regulation period, the score stood at 1-1. In extra time, the Reds took the lead again when substitute, Suso scored his first goal for the club. Liverpool was almost certain of victory until Kolo Toure and Raheem Sterling brought down Patrick Bamford in their penalty box in injury time of extra time and the loan star from Chelsea stepped up and netted the goal which took the match to the lottery of penalties.

It was complete drama during the penalty shootout. After the first round of shots, Bamford and Sterling had missed penalties for their sides and every member of both sides took penalties. The goals kept going in until sudden death when Albert Adomah missed his second kick for the night meaning that the championship side lost 13-14 to the Premier league side.
