Ebola Outbreak: LASG Wants Borders Closed

Over the weekend, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that the dreaded Ebola virus disease (EVD) had gone out of control.

The Lagos state government has been making moves to curtail the spread of the virus to Lagos and Nigeria in general. Reports have it that the Governor of the state, Babatunde Raji Fashola has been making moves to reach the President of the country, Goodluck Jonathan. He plans urging the President to close the borders Nigeria share with other African countries until the virus can be managed or controlled properly. You will recall that the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu recently claimed that the Presidency is not considering shutting down the nation’s borders

The Lagos state government also warned about the transportation of corpses of Nigerians who had died in neighboring countries for burial back here at home.  It also advocated for the cremation of such bodies in the countries where they died rather than the transportation of such bodies back home for traditional burial rites as the latter situation could help spread the virus.
