Management at the Mataima District Hospital where a majority of last Wednesday Emab Plaza bomb blast victims are receiving treatment, have called on good spirited Nigerians to donate blood for the victims of the blast.
The hospital secretary, Mrs. Angela Effiong addressing newsmen in Abuja said that the hospital is in dire need of blood supplies because of the persistent spate of bombings in Abuja in recent times.
Mrs. Effiong said that ‘blood donors play an integral role in the survival of these bomb blast victims as many lifesaving medical treatments and procedures involve blood transfusion.
‘whenever there are medical emergencies, you don’t ask victims to bring blood, we get blood from our blood bank, which are donations from people like you.’ she noted.
According to her, the hospital needs blood donations now more than ever as there is an increasing need for blood by patients every day, as some patients she stated need blood every second and just one pint of blood can save up to three lives.
Healthy adults who are at least seventeen years old may donate about a pint of blood every 56 days, or every two months.
