One Drowned, 9 Rescued As A Passenger Boat Capsizes In Lagos

At least one person drowned and nine others rescued as a passenger boat capsized in Lagos a month after a passenger boat capsized under Bonny Camp bridge, Victoria Island axis of the state on May 18, killing one of the nine passengers on board according to Vanguard.

The Tuesday incident involving a Coconut Island-bound boat at Tin Can Island, Apapa Local Government Area has raised more concerns over the safety of water travel in the state.

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, said the identity of the missing person was yet to be known as “The body of the missing person is yet to be recovered.”

Farinloye explained: “From my interview with the survivors, waves from four bigger boats that passed beside the boat at that time caused it to lose balance, and the passengers began to panic. This further caused the boat to capsize.”
