The Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-rufai has said that the Federal Government of Nigeria Monday banned planes from landing at the Kano International airport in a bid to frustrated those visiting the newly crowned Kano Emir.

Recall that the chartered aircraft that flew Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State to Kano State on a condolence visit to Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was Sunday night reportedly grounded.

The aircraft, which also conveyed the former governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje, and the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje.

In a post written Monday on his Facebook page, El-rufai wrote “BREAKING: Private planes banned from landing at the Kano Airport to frustrate those intending to fly into Kano to congratulate HRH emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.”

The Chieftain of Nigeria’s Opposition Political Party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, went on to question who is in charge of the airport, “is it the military airport commandant or the Nigerian Civil Aviation Agency, NCAA?”

“Is Nigeria under military rule or martial law allowing the violation of constitutional rights with such impunity?” He added.

We have called the  Aviation authorities to find out the actual situation at the Mallam Aminu Kano International airport but the phone lines are still not accessible. We shall keep trying and update our readers.
