Mothers Day: Nigerian Women Pray For Peace, Unity

Women and mothers in the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Abuja, on Sunday, prayed for peace, protection and unity of the country as preparations for the 2015 elections gathered momentum.

The prayer session was organised by the Cathedral in Life Camp, Gwarimpa, Abuja, as part of activities to mark the 2014 Mothering Sunday celebration which had “ Let Your Light Shine’’ as its theme.

Mrs Ngozi Ikeliani, the Chairperson of the Cathedral told reporters that the celebration signified a day that the Church recognised the importance of women in the worship of God.

She said “we asked God for peace, protection and defence of all Nigerians against all assaults of enemies.

“We prayed to God to give us leaders who would be ready to serve and not to exploit the citizens during the forthcoming 2015 elections.’’

According to her, the role of women in the service of the Church and maintaining the family cannot be over emphasised.

Ikeliani added that the celebration was organised to identify the role that women played in the world, especially in the Church, caring and maintaining the family.

She said “it is like a family Sunday because women are the custodians of the family, as they can make or mar homes.’’

The chairperson encouraged woman to take good care of their families and to instill good moral values in their children to ensure peace and tranquility in the society.

She advised societies not to discriminate against women but to ensure justice and fair play.

The Church leader said “we want to advise societies to stop all forms of discrimination against women because when there is no woman, there is no world and no peace.

She expressed optimism that if women were given the needed opportunity in the society, they would contribute immensely to development of any nation.
