Charlie Adam struck two thunderbolts to ruin David Moyes’s mini revival as Manchester United lose for the TENTH time under the Scotsman.
Mark Hughes’ team kicked off in the relegation zone after West Ham’s win but this deserved win sees them finish the day in 11th.
United started brightly, creating the first real chance of the match as Patrice Evra’s cross allowed Wayne Rooney to hook a volley behind, and then Robin van Persie had a diving header deflected over by Glenn Whelan.
But on 38 minutes, Chris Smalling fouled Jonathan Walters, and Adam’s 40-yard free-kick was deflected by a cowardly Michael Carrick attempted block, wrong-footing David de Gea.
United were forced to make two changes due to injury in the half, as Jonny Evans and then Phil Jones were injured, forcing Carrick into defence.
Van Persie equalised two minutes into the second half, curling a pass beyond the advancing Begovic. The lead was short-lived though, as Charlie Adam rifled a shot in the top corner after United failed to clear a cross.
