The political atmosphere ahead of the 2015 general elections heightened in Enugu state Tuesday as a pressure group, Enugu Salvation Group (ESG) endorsed Governor Sullivan Chime for the Enugu West senatorial seat in the National Assembly.
This is coming barely a week after kinsmen of the governor from Umuneke Udi clan equally endorsed Ekweremadu to return to the senate for a record fourth term by 2015 citing his numerous achievements as a lawmaker and towering influence as the nation’s Deputy Senate President.
But, briefing newsmen in Enugu, ESG National Coordinator, Steve Igweze, stated that the group would soon write Governor Chime formally, asking him to contest for the senate in the 2015 general elections.
Igweze disclosed that a survey conducted by his group in Enugu West showed that the people overwhelmingly preferred Governor Chime to Senator Ekweremadu, who has reached his zenith in the senate as a ‘third term senator’.
The ESG boss advised Ekweremadu to drop his ambition to allow Governor Chime to go the senate and give the Enugu West people quality representation, ‘for the prevailing axiom is turn by turn Plc’.
