Blasphemy: Zamfara Governor Says False Alarm Led To The Killing of 8 Students

Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has said the murder of eight persons at Talata-Mafara in the state was caused by false alarm.

NewsWireNGR recalls that the Zamfara State Governor barely a month ago, had warned that the state government “will deal decisively” with anyone caught desecrating the Holy Qur’an in the state.

Yari made the declaration while addressing newsmen shortly after meeting with the state’s Council of Ulama Consultative Forum in Gusau.

He had also said the State House of Assembly would soon review its law number seven so that the culprits would be prosecuted under Shariah law if they were arrested. He said those who committed the offence did so to perpetrate their evil machinations and called on the public to pray that such evil doers did not succeed in their mission.

But speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Governor Yari described the act as “unnecessary and act of devil” adding that “the government will not take the issue of people taking the laws into their own hands lightly”.

He said that there is a government in place and there are laws in the land and that all culprits in the killing will be apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.
