Associates of the former Bauchi state Governor, Isa Yuguda, under the aegis of the ‘Yuguda Political Transition Committee’ on Tuesday reacted to the recommendation that the ex- chief executive of the state should refund the sum of over N700 million he claimed to have spent on security ‘when there was no war in the state’.

The committee was set up by the incumbent Governor Muhammed Abubakar to recover all funds and property of the government allegedly carted away by the past administration

Adressing newsmen in the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists [NUJ], Bauchi, the spokesman of the Yuguda political transition committee and former state commissioner of information, Alhaji Salisu Barau, asserted that although the state was free from Boko Haram’s insurgency within the last couple of years, his principal had spent the said amount in tackling the endemic ‘sara-suka’ thuggery, ethno-religious crises in Tafawa Balewa local government area and Yelwa villages.

He calaimed that the use of the money brought about relative peace in the state.

Barau, who opined that any responsible government would give priority attention to the security of lives and property, condemned all the allegations being levelled against the ex- governor by the state recovery committee.

He said they were just meant to besmirch the reputation of their boss whom he claimed had executed numerous legacy projects that would forever be remembered by the posterity in the state.
