0

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a man, Adeola Badru, for allegedly defrauding a federal political appointment seeker of ?300 million.

Badru is accused of criminal breach of trust, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretences.

In 2023, he reportedly approached his victim, Joseph Olugbenga, posing as a seasoned politician with direct access to top political figures.

Badru allegedly promised to secure Olugbenga a seat on the board of the South West Development Commission for a fee of ?300 million.

Convinced by Badru’s claims, Olugbenga reportedly paid the sum in tranches. After receiving the payments, the suspect fled to Ibadan, Oyo State, and blocked all communication channels.

When Olugbenga realised he had been duped, he petitioned the Kwara State Police Command in February 2023.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Adekimi Ojo, on Thursday, confirmed the arrest at a press briefing in Ilorin.

“The Criminal Investigation Department swung into action and traced the suspect to his hideout in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he was arrested. During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily admitted to the crime,” Ojo said.

“The command is carrying out further investigation, and at the conclusion of our findings, the suspect will be duly charged to court.”

According to the CP, forged documents and other incriminating items were recovered from the suspect.

The gruesome murder of a housewife, Esther Enemor, killed by her husband, Ekene Enemor, in Ilorin, shocks the entire community

0

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has disclosed the gruesome murder of a housewife, Esther Enemor, allegedly by her husband, Ekene Enemor, in Egbejila community, Ilorin.

According to the CP, a vigilant neighbour, Ahmed Salman, raised the alarm after noticing a suspicious individual locking the Enemors’ house while Esther was reportedly inside.

When questioned, the stranger claimed to be the younger brother of Ekene, who resides with his family in Moshe Gada village.

Unsatisfied with the explanation, Salman knocked on the door but received no response. He then noticed bloodstains on the fence and wall, prompting him to alert other neighbours.

A search of the premises, police said, led to the shocking discovery of Esther’s mutilated body, dismembered from the neck to the waist, with the head and arms missing.

Further search efforts uncovered additional body parts, from the waist to the thigh, hidden under a culvert, also without legs.

Police investigations led to the arrest of Ekene Enemor, who confessed to killing his wife.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation,” Ojo said.

He revealed that Ekene, who sustained a leg wound, later died in the hospital after receiving threats and warnings from his children and other relatives never to return home for masterminding the killing.

Nigeria’s political atmosphere was full of betrayals and lies – Goodluck Jonathan

0

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, said Nigeria’s political atmosphere was full of betrayals and lies.

Jonathan stated this in Benin City, Edo State, during the 70th birthday ceremony of his former Chief of Staff and former deputy governor of Edo State, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, which attracted many dignitaries, including former governors Lucky Igbinedion, Osarhiemen Osunbor, Adams Oshiomhole and Ibrahim Dakwambo of Gombe State and others.

Jonathan said Oghiadomhe was an ally that can be trusted at all time.
“I became president, then post presidency, one of the few friends who would give up their necks for me is Mike. You know politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals.

“You find it difficult to see somebody who will say the same thing in the morning and in the evening. I’ve witnessed a lot of betrayals, especially in my 2015 election, and Mike is somebody who would take a bullet on my behalf.”

On his part, the deputy governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, who represented Governor Monday Okpebholo, said the foundation he laid as deputy was what is still being followed, while Lucky Igbinedion said he had no reservation handing over the affairs of the state to Ogiadomhe as his deputy governor when he needed to travel abroad.

Oshiomhole said whenever he discussed politics with the celebrant, he always told him that wherever Jonathan is, is where he would be. He commended his wife, Lousia, for being a dependable wife.

Femi Kuti, a popular Nigerian musician and the first son of the Afrobeat founder, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has revealed why he left his father’s band

Femi Kuti, a popular Nigerian musician and the first son of the Afrobeat founder, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has revealed why he left his father’s band.

Femi disclosed during his recent appearance on the Afropolitan podcast.

Speaking about his decision to part ways with Fela’s music band, Femi Kuti disclosed that he left to discover his own identity because “I did not have any possibility of my life”..

“Growing up in school, everybody would be like ‘aren’t you going to be like your dad, or won’t you play music? I was pressured to be like my father.

“If I wanted to play music, I had to be Femi Kuti. I used the same mathematical thought that I cannot be Fela. I began to wear the same outfits as my father because I used to stay with my mother before I ran away to stay with him.

“I was like mini Fela because he usually dresses me like himself. I just thought I should better look for myself fast, or I’m going to be a wretched man. So I went back to my mother.

“The moment I formed my band, his fan base descended on me. It was very difficult to find a good write-up about me at the time because the press hated me, and there was no internet for me to defend myself.

“Being under my father, I didn’t have any possibility of my own life, including having children. I saw my life in his life,” the 63-year-old stated.

The Kaduna State Police Command has invited former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and seven members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for questioning over alleged criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.

A police letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Uzainu Abdullahi, directed the ADC State Chairman to produce El-Rufai and the others at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, on September 8.

Those listed in the invitation are Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (popularly known as 30), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (also known as Mikiya).

The letter, titled “Investigation Activities: Case of Criminal Conspiracy, Inciting Disturbance of Public Peace, Mischief and Causing Grievous Hurt,” stated that the invitation was to enable the individuals clarify allegations reported against them.

Meanwhile, security operatives on Wednesday sealed the ADC office at No. 4 Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, hours before the Northwest leadership of the party was scheduled to visit the state chapter on a commiseration mission.

The visit was intended to sympathise with members injured when political thugs attacked a coalition meeting of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and ADC in Kaduna last week.

Eyewitnesses said several police patrol vans were deployed around the premises to block access to the opposition party’s office.

Eight things you might not know about the designer, Italian fashion legend Giorgio Armani

Italian fashion legend Giorgio Armani, king of a high-end lifestyle empire, has died at the age of 91, “surrounded by his loved ones”, his company said Thursday.

“With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani,” it said in a statement.

The best-known contemporary designer, Armani opened his fashion house in Milan in 1975, quickly rising to the top of the industry and going on to dress the stars.

His funeral will be private, the group said, but well-wishers can pay respects beforehand at a funeral chamber open on Saturday and Sunday in Milan.

“Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones,” the company said.

“Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects,” the company said.

Armani had cancelled his menswear show in Milan this year due to health reasons. He also missed the Paris Armani Prive show on doctors’ orders.

“In 20 years of Armani Prive, it’s the first time I’m not in Paris,” he said in a statement sent to AFP in July.

“My doctors advised more rest, even though I felt ready.”

He added that he had “followed and overseen every aspect of the show remotely”, stressing: “I approved and signed off on everything you will see.”

The Italian icon was credited with inventing red-carpet fashion, but also moved into a younger and less expensive range through Emporio Armani, and opened luxury hotels.

His death came just weeks ahead of celebrations marking 50 years of his eponymous label.

Italy’s Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli led the tributes, paying homage to “a leading figure in Italian culture, who was able to transform elegance into a universal language”.

“His understated and innovative style redefined the relationship between fashion, cinema, and society, leaving an indelible mark on contemporary culture,” he said.

“He was not only a master of fashion, but also a recognised ambassador of Italian identity around the world.”

Here are eight things you might not know about the designer.

1. The current cult of the bomber jacket can be traced back to Armani. The first pieces he designed under his own name were a series of leather bomber jackets in 1970.

2. He is a regular in rap lyrics, with Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West and TI recently giving Armani a shout-out. Biggie Smalls was also a fan – he had a penchant for Armani pyjamas, apparently.

3. His brand, with couture, ready-to-wear and Emporio lines on the catwalk, is big business. In 2012, the annual revenue reached £1.67bn. Armani himself is worth a cool £4.96bn, and is officially the most successful Italian designer ever.

4. Armani was well-versed in fashion before he went out on his own. He was a window dresser first, working at La Rinascente department store in Milan. Freelance gigs for Zegna, Cerruti and Loewe followed.

5. Armani loves sport. He is a fan of Inter Milan and is on the board of Olimpia Milano basketball team. If he had to pick a team in the Premier League, it would probably be Chelsea. He designed suits for the team and worked on the interiors at Stamford Bridge.

6. Fashion wasn’t his first career choice. Armani studied medicine and completed military service before deciding it wasclothes, not bandages, that were his calling.

7. The designer, who wears a uniform of navy, is a self-described perfectionist, even arguing in a Vogue interview that he was “10 times” worse than fashion’s most high-profile stickler, Mr Tom Ford.

8. Armani is practically fashion’s patron saint in Italy. He has designed uniforms for the police force, kitted out Milanese taxi drivers and even designed the cover of a gospels book for the pope.

A family of three died in a car crash along the Mabushi Bridge in Abuja after the driver had an altercation with some louts

0

A family of three died in a car crash along the Mabushi Bridge in Abuja on Wednesday, after the driver had an altercation with some louts, resulting in the crash that killed the family instantly.

Punch Newspaper reported that the louts had stopped the private vehicle for flouting their rules by reportedly stopping to pick up a passenger who was a relative.

The refusal of the driver to pay the “fine” angered the louts, who then hopped in the vehicle, dragging the steering wheel and eventually causing the accident.

Subsequently, angered passersby who witnessed the scene chased down the louts, eventually setting one of them on fire, and severely injuring the other two, who were rescued and rushed to the hospital by the police.

A parallel account, however, claimed that five persons were involved in the crash – a family of two and three touts who forced themselves into the vehicle while it was in motion.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle then collided with a painted taxi, near the Mabushi bridge, before veering off the road into a ditch.

The family reportedly died on the spot, while the three others were rescued and taken to the National Hospital for treatment.

The wreckage was consequently cleared by officers of the Mabushi Police Division.

Colombian footballer, Javier Bolívar slapped female referee Vanessa Ceballos moments after being shown a red card

0

A Colombian lower-division league match descended into chaos on Wednesday after Real Alianza Cataquera midfielder Javier Bolívar slapped female referee Vanessa Ceballos moments after being shown a red card.

In a video posted on X by one of Mexico City’s leading daily newspapers, La Jornada, the incident occurred when Ceballos moved to dismiss Bolívar from the game after an offence.

Instead of walking away, the player turned back and struck her across the face, sparking uproar among players and spectators.

Visibly furious, the referee attempted to retaliate with a kick before colleagues and players intervened which preventedher from fighting back.

One goalkeeper was seen shoving the player away, while officials hurried to shield Ceballos from further assault. Calls for Bolívar’s suspension grew louder as the clip circulated online.

In a swift response, the footballer issued a lengthy apology on Instagram, admitting his conduct was “disrespectful and inappropriate.”

“I want to make it absolutely clear that at no time was there any physical aggression toward the referee,”* Bolívar insisted, claiming he was trying to grab the whistle from her mouth rather than slap her.

He added, “However, I understand that my gesture was offensive and portrayed her as contrary to the values of football and respect. Therefore, I humbly apologize to her, her family, the women, and everyone who was affected by what happened.

“I firmly reject any form of violence, especially against women. Women deserve all our respect, care, and admiration. My commitment is to work on my personal and athletic growth to never again repeat an act that violates anyone’s dignity.”

Referee assaults have long been a blight on world football. In 2021, Brazilian amateur player Willian Ribeiro punched referee Rodrigo Crivellaro during a lower-division league match, leaving the official temporarily unconscious. Ribeiro was arrested, but there’s no confirmed report that he received a lifetime ban.

Similar cases have been reported in Argentina, Mexico and across Europe, prompting calls for stronger sanctions and security measures to protect match officials.

In Nigeria, assaults on referees are also a recurring issue. In April 2023, during an NPFL match between Remo Stars and Gombe United, the referee was assaulted in the dressing room due to inadequate security.

The league penalised Remo Stars with points and goal deductions, fines, and compensation. These incidents triggered renewed calls for better security for match officials.

FIFA has repeatedly stressed the need to protect referees, warning that violence against officials undermines the integrity of the game.

Police detectives in Ondo State have rescued a 15-year-old girl from being forced into marriage with a 52-year-old man

0

Police detectives in Ondo State have rescued a 15-year-old girl from being forced into marriage with a 52-year-old man, identified as Asere Sunday, in Idoani, Ose Local Government Area of the state.

A community leader reportedly alerted security operatives about the planned marriage, prompting detectives to storm the venue and rescue the teenager. She was immediately taken to the Reference Hospital, Akure, for medical examination and care.

A police source disclosed that the intended groom, popularly known as “Santo,” his 22-year-old son, Asere Kehinde, and the girl’s father, Ayoola Sunday, who allegedly received money in exchange for his daughter, were arrested.

During interrogation, Asere confessed to arranging the marriage and admitted to offering financial inducement to the victim’s father. The father, however, blamed his decision on poverty.

Intelligence reports further revealed that youths in the community had mobilized to resist the marriage and were on the verge of clashing with the victim’s family before the police intervened.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the act, describing it as a clear case of child abuse and exploitation.

“The Command will not tolerate child marriage, gender-based violence, or any form of exploitation. Parents must protect their children instead of trading their future for money,” CP Lawal declared.

He assured that the suspects are in custody and would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
