The National Assembly has unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

0

The National Assembly has unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing.

The office was unsealed on Tuesday by the Deputy Director of the Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabi Adedeji, potentially paving the way for the Kogi Central Senator to return to the Red Chamber when plenary resumes on October 7, 2025.

“To unseal Senator Natasha Akpoti’s office, I, Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director, Sergeant-at-Arms, hereby unseal the office,” said the Sergeant-at-Arms before unlocking the door to the office, which had been under seal for six months.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate for six months over alleged violations of its standing rules.

The suspension, recommended by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, also stripped her of aides, office privileges and salaries.

Her suspension attracted a lot of reactions, with many, including civil society organisations and opposition politicians, condemning the action by the Senate.

She approached the court in July over the matter and made an unsuccessful attempt to resume sitting.

While the matter is still in court, the Kogi Senator served out her six-month suspension this September and declared her intention to return to her duty.

About two weeks ago, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan wrote to the Senate, informing it of her intention to resume.

Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said those that defected to the APC from the opposition would soon pay the price of betrayal

0

National leader of New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said those that defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the opposition would soon pay the price of betrayal.

This was as he stated that the NNPP would remain resolutely firm in the face of oppression and hardship confronting the country.

The presidential candidate of NNPP in 2023 general election spoke at his Miller road mansion while receiving supporters of the Senator representing Kano South, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, on solidarity visit.
Earlier, one of the leaders of the group Sunusi Hukuma, declared that their loyalty to Kwankwaso remains unshakeable despite the defection of their kinsman Senator Sumaila.

The leader of the group vowed to muscle energy against the political ambition of Senator Sumaila, just as he declared readiness to vote the next candidate preferred by Kwankwaso to replace Sumaila.

Hukuma, however, distanced his group from those that move along with Senator Sumaila to APC, adding that they withdrew their supports for the senator the moment he abandoned the platform that brought him to the National Assembly.

Hukuma, who led the crowd to renew their allegiance, subsequently replaced their caps with the red symbol of Kwankwasiyya to signal their loyalty.

“We shall continue to be loyal to the Kwankwasiyya Movement. We supported the senator because he joined the movement and contested.

Now that he has left the movement, we have come before our beloved leader to reiterate our loyalty to the leadership of Kwankwasiyya, where we have been and will remain forever,” he stated.
Kwankwaso commended the group for their loyalty despite several attempt to corruption their minds.

Though Kwankwaso did not categorical mentioned Senator Sumaila’s name, he applauded the supporters of the lawmaker for resisting the temptation of dumping the Kwankwasiyya movement when the he defected.

“Kwankwasiyya is a movement for the people and a movement for those who reason, it is not a money-making venture. Under this movement the poor have come to understand that they don’t need money or some gifts to vote for anybody again.

“It is such that those who were voted for by the poor who have refused to be bribed to vote for others. They have unfortunately dumped our party after they have been bribed.

“I assure you that this will not persist. As the time of judgement will soon come when they will realise they made the wrong decision. But for anyone who have betrayed the trust of the people that voted for him, there is a price for that,” he said.

Recalled that Senator Sumaila, prior to the 2023 general election, left APC and joined the NNPP where he won the Senatorial seat representing Kano South. Sumaila has now dumped the NNPP and returned to the APC, just as he declared full support for President Bola Tinubu’s victory in Kano.

Ballon d’Or Win: England’s Wiegman asks for dance with Burna Boy

England women’s national team coach, Sarina Wiegman, has playfully suggested that Afrobeats star Burna Boy should join her in a dance to celebrate after she was named Coach of the Year (Women) at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris.

Wiegman, who led the Lionesses to Euro 2025 victory in Switzerland, England’s first major international trophy abroad, used her acceptance speech to thank players, staff, and family before adding a lighter note.
“Let’s celebrate our successes too, and if Burna Boy is around, maybe we could do a little bit of dancing too,” she said to applause.

Burna Boy quickly responded on X (formerly Twitter), writing,
“haha, I’m up for it Sarina! A huge congrats to you and the team #Lionesses.”

The exchange has delighted fans online, sparking memories of Wiegman’s admiration for the Nigerian singer.

Recall that Wiegman got an unexpected surprise during the Lionesses’ triumphant homecoming parade at Buckingham Palace after their Euro win, when Burna Boy performed live, a moment that thrilled the coach, who has often described him as her favourite artist.

Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested the suspected killer of 42-year-old estate agent, Richard Ekpebu

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested the suspected killer of 42-year-old estate agent, Richard Ekpebu, who was abducted, murdered, and his body dumped in a bush on July 24 this year.

The suspect, identified as George Idumangi, from Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was arrested on Monday in Lagos while attempting to procure an international passport at the Immigration Office.

It was gathered that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Francis Idu, had transferred the case to Operation Puff Adder, led by CSP Chris Nwaogbo, for investigation.

According to a police source, operatives of Operation Puff Adder trailed the suspect to Lekki, Ikorodu, Festac, Ikeja, and Orile in Lagos State before finally arresting him on Monday.

Officers reportedly missed him narrowly at some hideouts but recovered his bag containing a T-shirt with “IYC Tactical Team” inscribed on it, as well as two phones allegedly used in the murder of the estate agent.

The police team had earlier arrested 23-year-old Victory Benard Henry, said to be Idumangi’s girlfriend, in Yenagoa. Items recovered from her included one pump-action rifle, five live cartridges, two empty AK-47 magazines, 10 walkie-talkies, 10 chargers, and three AK-47 rifle slings.

Victory allegedly lured the late Ekpebu under the pretence of discussing a land sale. She linked him to Idumangi, who then connected with a potential buyer. The buyer reportedly paid N9 million directly into Idumangi’s account.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that Victory allegedly received N1 million for her role. Trouble began when the buyer demanded land documents from Ekpebu, who denied knowledge of the transaction.
According to a police source, “The buyer contacted the agent for the papers. The agent told him to meet the landowner, as he was not aware of the transaction. He said instead of informing him, the buyer paid the suspect directly.”

The deceased later confronted Idumangi, warning him not to lie that he had received the land documents.

Subsequently, the suspect, alongside one Victor Shadrack (popularly known as Doggy) and another accomplice identified as Insurance, allegedly lured Ekpebu out of his house, abducted him, and killed him to cover up their false claim that the agent had absconded with the land documents.

Confirming the incident, CP Idu said, “After painstaking intelligence and law enforcement measures, Mr George Idumangi, who murdered Mr Richard Ekpebu at Bayelsa Palm, was arrested this morning in Lagos while trying to flee the country. This was achieved with real intelligence. I am grateful to the noble people of Bayelsa and the Prosperity Government.”

Comedian Sanku’s death sparks row over unpaid loan car

Content creator Folorunsho Olayinka, popularly known as Finest, has stated that the comedian, Adetola Samad, aka Sanku, died in a loaned 2012 model Lexus RX 350 SUV, which was meant to be returned to the dealer in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, for a cheaper car.

According to Finest, who stood as the guarantor for the late comedian, the deceased had informed him of his decision to get the vehicle for N25,400,000.

According to a receipt issued by JJ Motors Empire and Services Limited, dated June 5, 2025, and shared by the content creator during a TikTok livestream, Sanku had only paid N7,000,000 as of the time of the purchase.

He said, “I was only a guarantor, it was because the car dealer knew me. I only helped him. I wasn’t the one who told him to come to Ilorin; he was the one who requested a driver, which I provided for him. After paying N7,000,000 to acquire the vehicle, he began paying in instalments until he had paid N12,280,000.

“So what will be my gain in ordering that the person who owed about N13 million, for whom I stood as guarantor, be killed? What will be my gain? I don’t even know the driver.
“The late Sanku is not someone I would be leaking his secrets to the public, even this one I said, it was because I was fingered in the cause of his death. I have all the voice notes of him appreciating me for being his guarantor.

“The day the accident happened, I sent my siblings and some of the guys on set with me to visit the scene. Even when they arrived at the hospital, they complained that they were not treated immediately. I was the one who sent my people money for their treatment.”

However, contradicting Finest’s claim, one of the late comedian’s friends, who craved anonymity because of the gravity of the issue, enunciated that Sanku was pressured to return the car for a Nigerian-used Toyota Venza because he could not complete the Lexus fee, leaving a balance of N2.3 million.

In a WhatsApp recording played to our correspondent on Tuesday, the late comedian was heard saying that he was repeatedly rung to return the car for a cheaper option (Venza), but his uncle, who is a policeman in Osogbo, told him not to go because they could trick him into collecting the car without replacing it as agreed.

Sanku passed on September 2, 2025, in a fatal car accident along Ogbomoso Road in Oyo State.

Actor Yemi Elesho confirmed his death on his social media pages.

Before his demise, Sanku had on June 6, 2025, posted on his TikTok page photographs of the Lexus car he bought with the caption, “Alhamdullilah for life, congratulations Adetola,” while tagging Finest as the car dealer.

Nigerian man who has lived in the UK for almost 40 years has won an appeal to stay

0

A Disabled Nigerian man who has lived in the UK for almost 40 years has won an appeal to stay in the country despite the Home Office wanting to deport him.

Anthony Olubunmi George, 63, came to the UK at the age of 24 in 1986. He has not left the UK since and has no criminal convictions. He had two strokes in 2019 that left him with speech and mobility issues.

George has endured periods of homelessness and says he has lost count of the number of friends who have given him shelter over the years. He says he no longer has any close family in Nigeria.

“I don’t know how many different sofas I’ve slept on, too many to count,” he said.

George had made various applications for leave to remain in the UK, which the Home Office rejected. He said he was overjoyed to finally have the fear of deportation lifted after the judge’s ruling.

“I’m so happy I don’t know what to say,” he said. “My life has just begun again. Before, I didn’t have hope, but now, by God’s grace, I can move forward with my life.”
His previous solicitors submitted a forged entry stamp in his passport in 2005, and have subsequently been reported to the police and legal regulatory bodies.

George said he knew nothing about the passport stamp until many years later. His current lawyer, Naga Kandiah of MTC Solicitors, cited his poor previous legal representation as the reason for George’s problems resolving his immigration status.

A Home Office rejection of his case before his successful appeal states: “It’s open to your family and friends to visit you in Nigeria.”

The immigration tribunal judge who granted George the right to remain in the UK referred in his ruling to the fact that the solicitor who submitted the fake passport stamp had been struck off. He said George had stopped going to see his GP because of fears about his immigration status.

“It is unfortunate that the appellant went on to suffer two cardiovascular attacks having refrained from going for health checks,” the judge said, adding that George has been destitute while in the UK.

Kandiah said: “My client has been living in limbo for almost 40 years, has suffered two strokes and has no family left in Nigeria. His situation is not just because of Home Office policies, but also because of poor representation by previous solicitors who failed to uphold professional integrity and ethical standards.

“Despite our several applications to the Home Office to review the matter rather than proceeding to an oral hearing, our attempts were refused again and again by the Home Office, and the case went to a full court hearing”.

“I am overjoyed with the decision. He has waited for it for almost four decades.”

Kenneth Okonkwo has said, African Democratic Congress, will send Tinubu back to his home in Bourdillon in 2027 presidential

0

A Nollywood veteran-turned politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has expressed optimism that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, will win the 2027 presidential election.
?
?Speaking in an interview on ‘Sunrise Daily’, a programme on Channels Television on Monday, ?Okonkwo, stated that the opposition party would not form the government, but also send President Bola Tinubu back to his home at Bourdillon.?

??”In 2027, we stand a chance in every election in Nigeria, but I wouldn’t say the same thing for any election for which the primaries have been conducted before the coming into existence of David Mark’s leadership, because they were not part of the people who decided.

??”That is why I’m saying the true test of ADC will be in 2027. We are going to form the next government in Nigeria and send Tinubu to Bourdillon,” the lawyer said.

While speaking on the structure of the ADC in the country, the ADC chieftain stated that the party exists across the 36 states, adding that in Rivers, a former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, being a prominent leader of the ADC, is qualified to be addressed as the leader of the party in the state.

?“The ADC exists in the 36 states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Rotimi Amaechi naturally is one of the prominent leaders of ADC in Rivers state and in the South-South. So, it will not be out of place if you say that he is the leader of the ADC in Rivers State,” he added.

Otedola says under former President Jonathan’s administration, more than N2 trillion was siphoned through subsidy claims

0

Nigerian billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, has dropped fresh revelations on the rot in the country’s oil sector, accusing members of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) of clinging to a corrupt business model built on subsidy fraud and outdated infrastructure.

Otedola, in a statement, said that under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, more than N2 trillion was siphoned through questionable subsidy claims.

He warned that the racket was tied to depot licenses and designed to enrich a cartel of importers at the expense of Nigerians.

“I personally warned President Goodluck Jonathan that he was being misled. The system was built to benefit depot owners, and DAPPMAN members became the primary beneficiaries,” Otedola said.

“Over N2 trillion was siphoned through questionable claims, all tied to depot licenses. The policy rewarded neither transparency nor innovation. It encouraged rent-seeking and corruption.”

The revelations come amid a raging dispute between Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, whose $20 billion refinery has begun local fuel supply, and DAPPMAN members who have resisted the disruption to their import-driven business model.

Otedola, who noted that he founded DAPPMAN in 2002 to challenge the dominance of major oil marketers, said the group has now outlived its usefulness.

“But history has shown time and again: you can delay change, frustrate it, even sabotage it—but you can never stop it,” he declared.

“What is DAPPMAN fighting for today? To preserve a model built on fuel imports, subsidy exploitation, and outdated infrastructure? That era is fast disappearing.”

“DAPPMAN had its place but today, its relevance is fast fading. We must stop clinging to outdated privileges and focus on a new era built on self-sufficiency, transparency, and sustainable value creation. Aliko’s refinery is not the problem. It is the solution. Let’s move forward,” he stated.

The businessman described Dangote’s refinery as “transformative,” noting that beyond producing fuel, the company has purchased 8,000 brand new CNG eco-friendly trucks to overhaul distribution logistics across the country, unlike the rickety tankers that have dominated the sector for decades.

He argued that claims that depots generate massive employment are a myth.

“Depots do not drive employment as some claim. A typical depot employs perhaps five people, gatekeeper included. In contrast, a single filling station can provide jobs to dozens of Nigerians,” he stated.

Otedola accused DAPPMAN members of blackmail, insisting there was no justification for their demand that Dangote subsidise them with N1.5 trillion, an amount that would eventually be passed on to Nigerian consumers.

“Zenon Oil pioneered the modern diesel business in Nigeria. We built depots to store imported diesel because the market was import-driven and riddled with inefficiencies. But with Dangote’s refinery fully operational, those gaps no longer exist,” he said.

“We now have domestic production, and local supply is efficient, reliable, and proudly Nigerian.”

According to Otedola, the “old guard” in the downstream sector must adapt or go bankrupt.

He suggested they consider converting their depots into new value chains or even acquiring the moribund Port Harcourt Refinery if they truly believe in competition.

“The same thing happened in the cement industry. Once Nigeria started producing cement locally, the bulk carriers that used to dock at our ports were retired. The same outcome awaits fuel depots. If DAPPMAN members do not adapt, they will not only become irrelevant, they may go bankrupt,” Otedola warned.

The businessman also praised President Bola Tinubu for breaking the cartel’s grip on the oil sector through full deregulation.

“This singular act has broken the grip of entrenched interests and ushered in a new era of transparency, healthy competition, and customer-centric service delivery,” he said.

To address insecurity, Kano recruits 600 unemployed youths to combat phone snatching and thuggery

The Kano State Government has flagged off training of the first batch of 380 volunteer youths out of the 600 recruited as members of the Special Anti-Phone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards as part of renewed efforts to tackle phone snatching, thuggery and other related crimes.

The two-week intensive training at the Kano State Corporate Security Institute Gabasawa, is aimed at equipping the trainees with the necessary skills to assist in safeguarding lives and property across the state.

This is contained in a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Enlightenment, Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, Muhammad Idris, which was made available to newsmen on Monday.

“The trainees represent the first batch of 600 volunteers recruited to serve as members of the Special Antiphone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards.

Represented by Gadi Galadima, the emir lauded Gov. Inuwa Yahaya over improved investment in the education sector.

The highlight of the event featured the symbolic enrolment of school-age children into Primary I, and out-of-school children into post-basic school.

Gombe State Government says it will send parents to jail for not sending their children to school

The Gombe State Government says it will prosecute parents and guardians for not sending their children to school.

Chairman, Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board, Babaji Babadidi, said this on Monday at the inauguration of the 2025/2026 School Enrollment Campaign at Amada in Akko Local Government Area of the state.

He said that defaulting parents could face a two-month jail term under Section 19(2) of the SUBEB Amendment Law 2021.

Babadidi said the measure was necessary to ensure that every child has access to quality basic education.

“Every parent should ensure that their child or ward attends and completes primary, junior and senior secondary education.

“Any parent who contravenes Section 19(2) of the law commits an offence and is liable, upon conviction, to pay a fine or serve a one-month prison sentence.

“Subsequent convictions also attract a substantial fine or imprisonment for a term of two months,” he said.

Babadidi said that before this enrollment campaign, the state government adopted a carrot approach by providing free education.

“However, if we fail to meet our target of enrolling 400,000 students into primary schools this session, we will revert to the stick approach by enforcing the law.”

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Aishatu Maigari, said the state has over 700,000 out-of-school children.
According to Maigari, the Northeast region accounts for 15 per cent of Nigeria’s 18.2 million out-of-school children.

“We cannot sit and fold our arms while our children remain out of school. We will ensure every child is enrolled. Every child will receive quality education and also learn a trade, which does not necessarily mean working for the government.

“An educated person can become an employer of labour through skills and entrepreneurship acquired in school,” she said.

Maigari said the state government made massive investments to enhance access to quality education, and urged parents to reciprocate the gesture by sending their wards to school.

“We have supported the children with exercise books, school bags, and other school materials,” she said.

The commissioner commended community leaders for mobilising parents to enroll their children in schools.

Dr Nuzhat Rafique, Chief of UNICEF, Field Office Bauchi, described the number of out-of-school children in Gombe state as “alarming.”
According to Rafique, UNICEF works to uphold children’s rights, especially access to education.

“Every child has the right to be in school, to receive quality education, and to grow into a productive citizen of society.”

She described the enrollment campaign as a critical moment and urged parents, children, and stakeholders to support the programme.

The Emir of Gona, Alhaji Umar Abdulsalam, pledged his council’s readiness to mobilise participation in the campaign.
