FBI places N14m reward for information leading to the arrest of a Nigerian man

0

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced a reward of up to $10,000 (about N14m) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Nigerian national, Olumide Adebiyi Adediran, who has been on the run for more than two decades.

Adediran absconded from the Central District of Illinois in late December 2001, just before his federal trial was scheduled to begin.

He was facing multiple charges, including Bank Fraud, Identification Document Fraud, and Credit Card Fraud.

On its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Bureau posted, “The FBI offers a reward of up to $10,000 for info leading to the arrest and conviction of Olumide Adebiyi Adediran, wanted for Violation of Conditions of Release. Adediran fled the Central District of Illinois at the end of December of 2001, shortly before his trial was set to begin on federal charges of Bank Fraud, Identification Document Fraud, and Credit Card Fraud.”

According to details published on the Bureau’s official website, Adediran is wanted for Violation of Conditions of Release.

The FBI alleges that in August 2001, he entered a bank in Champaign, Illinois, and attempted to withdraw money using a deposited fraudulent check.

He also allegedly used stolen personal information belonging to U.S. citizens to open both bank and credit card accounts.

When Adediran fled just days before his trial, he violated the terms of his release and effectively became a fugitive. On January 2, 2002, a federal arrest warrant was issued against him in the United States District Court, Central District of Illinois, Urbana, charging him with Violation of Conditions of Release.

One of the Psquare brother, Paul has vowed to go after a lady who accused him of rape on social media

Nigerian singer, Rudeboy of the P Square brothers, Paul Okoye, has vowed to go after a lady who accused him of rape on social media, saying she will be used as a scapegoat.

The netizen with the X handle @chubbiedivah alleged that the singer raped and coerced his domestic staff while sending his wife and sister-in-law out of the house at the time.

The allegation quickly went viral, with many social media users asking Rudeboy to respond to the accusation.

Reacting in a tweet, the artiste promised to track down the lady with the resources at his disposal.

“I will find you, I will use every necessary means, power, resources and money. You will face the law, I will use you to set an example — a scapegoat,” he penned.

According to Rudeboy, the only means of escape for the accuser is to “leave the surface of this earth and relocate to space.”

Billionaire, Abdul Samad Rabiu, predicts the naira will strengthen to between N1,300 to the dollar

0

Billionaire businessman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, president of BUA Group, has predicted that the naira will strengthen to between ?1,300 and ?1,400 to the dollar by the end of the year.

Rabiu stated this while addressing journalists shortly after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

Praising what he described as President Tinubu’s “bold and decisive” economic reforms, Rabiu said the policy changes are already yielding positive results for businesses and the currency.

He stated, “I expect that the exchange rate is going to strengthen even further. I expect that the rate should come down to maybe ?1,300, ?1,400 before the end of the year. And this is something that we should all celebrate.”

The BUA chairman noted that businesses no longer rely solely on the Central Bank of Nigeria for foreign exchange, as many are now able to source FX independently through credit cards and international banking channels.

“So really, for all of these, we must give full credit to His Excellency and the government.

“Their bold reforms and decisive policies are creating the foundation for a stronger economy, a more stable currency, and a better future for businesses and Nigerians alike,” he added.

On inflation and food costs, Rabiu said commodity prices have fallen compared with last year.

He encouraged patience as the reforms continue to take effect.

“If you look at the prices of food items last year and what we have today, you’ll see that there is a significant reduction in all the commodities.

“So, I think we just need to be a bit more patient. Clearly, things are getting better, and we must continue to support the government,” the BUA chairman said.

Rivers sole administrator and the EFCC Chairman are currently at the Villa

0

The immediate past sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, and the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, are currently at the State House in Abuja.

Although the reason for their presence at the Villa could not be immediately ascertained, it was gathered that President Bola Tinubu had summoned Ibas.

According to Channels TV, Ibas arrived at the State House on Wednesday at around 5:50 pm.

That Ibas, who took over the affairs of the state in March following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, had last week handed power back to the governor after Tinubu lifted the six-month suspension.

Members of the State House of Assembly had also resolved to probe Ibas’s six-month administration.

Shares of Guinness Nigeria Plc have risen by more than 41% in September, reaching their highest level

0

Shares of Guinness Nigeria Plc have risen by more than 41% in September, reaching their highest level in a year and putting the brewer on track for its strongest performance since it began trading on the Nigerian Exchange in 2012.

The stock climbed from N130 at the start of the month to N183.9 by September 23, marking a year-to-date gain of 161.78%. If sustained, this would make 2025 Guinness Nigeria’s best year on the bourse.

The surge follows improved financial results for the year ending June 30, 2025. The company posted a pretax profit of N27.9 billion, reversing a loss of N73.6 billion recorded in 2024. Revenue grew by 65.82% to N496.6 billion, while finance expenses declined to N8.5 billion from N30.6 billion, largely due to reduced foreign exchange losses.

The turnaround comes a year after Tolaram Group completed its acquisition of a 58.02% stake from Diageo in September 2024. Since then, the new majority shareholder has restructured the board and taken direct control of operations.

Quarterly results released earlier in 2025 also signalled recovery. In January, Guinness Nigeria reported a pretax profit of N20.1 billion for the quarter ended December 2024, compared with a loss of N8.2 billion a year earlier. Further profits were recorded in March and April 2025, supported by stronger sales and lower currency-related losses.

Market watchers note that continued performance in the second half of 2025 will determine whether Guinness Nigeria consolidates its gains and secures its best trading year to date.

Portuguese government presented a new version of a bill designed to curb immigration

0

The Portuguese government presented on Wednesday a new version of a bill designed to curb immigration following objections from the constitutional court over family reunification barriers.

“This is not the initial law we had proposed, but it serves the purpose of regulating immigration humanely,” government spokesperson Antonio Leitao Amaro said at a press conference, describing the reforms as “urgent, necessary, and important”.

Under the new bill submitted to Parliament, migrants will still have to live in Portugal for two years before they can apply for family reunification. However, it provides exceptions to reduce this period, particularly for married couples and minor children.

Key provisions in the previous bill, approved by the right-wing parliamentary majority in July, had been struck down by the constitutional court the following month.

President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa vetoed the bill and sent it back to parliament, forcing it to be re-written.

The provision restricting visas for job seekers to highly skilled workers remains in place, as does the one ending preferential treatment for Brazilians, the country’s largest immigrant group.

The July bill also provided for the creation of a new police unit tasked with fighting irregular immigration and carrying out deportations.
However, another element regarding the process of acquiring Portuguese nationality is still under discussion.

Last year, the government had already repealed rules allowing undocumented immigrants to regularise their status if they could show they had been working for at least a year and contributing to the state social security system.

At the end of 2024, the number of foreigners living in Portugal exceeded 1.5 million, about 15 percent of the total population and nearly four times more than in 2017.

Tinubu moves to restart oil production in Ogoniland

0

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday conferred posthumous national honours of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) on the late Ogoni leaders, Albert Badey, Edward Kobani, Theophilus Orage, and Samuel Orage, collectively remembered as the “Ogoni Four.”

The President announced the honours while receiving the report of the Ogoni Consultations Committee at the State House, Abuja.
He urged the people of Ogoniland to embrace reconciliation and unity after decades of division.

“May their memories continue to inspire unity, courage and purpose among us. I urge the Ogoni people across classes, communities and generations to close ranks, put this dark chapter behind us and move forward as a united community with one voice,” Tinubu said.

He pledged his administration’s support for peace, environmental remediation, and economic revival in Ogoniland, while confirming plans to facilitate the resumption of oil production in the area.

“I am encouraged by the overwhelming consensus of the Ogoni communities to welcome the resumption of oil production. The government will deploy every resource to support your people in this march towards shared prosperity,” the President declared.

Tinubu recalled that in 2022 the previous administration handed the operatorship of the Ogoni oil field to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its partners, and stressed that his government would build on that decision.

He directed the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to begin engagements between Ogoni communities, NNPCL, and other stakeholders to finalise modalities for restarting operations.

Five communities in Kogi State have already been submerged by rising water levels

0

The Kogi State Government has called on the Federal Government and national and international disaster relief agencies to give urgent attention to the state, which remains one of Nigeria’s most flood-prone areas due to its location at the confluence of Rivers Niger and Benue.

Five communities in Ibaji Local Government Area have already been submerged by rising water levels from both rivers, according to Guardian Newspaper reports.

State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, made the appeal on Wednesday in Lokoja while receiving the management team of the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA) in his office.

“Nigeria should begin to take Kogi very seriously. This is the state where the Rivers Niger and Benue meet. But when it comes to flooding, states through which these rivers flow often get more attention than Kogi,” Fanwo said.

He stressed that the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is committed to the welfare of residents, but cannot singlehandedly shoulder the enormous burden of recurring floods.

He urged federal agencies, humanitarian partners, and international organizations to intervene swiftly.

Fanwo highlighted Ibaji as a major rice production hub whose submergence poses a threat to food security nationwide.

“We are at the center of the nation. If Kogi is cut off, the entire country feels the impact. That is why we are calling for a state of emergency and immediate humanitarian support to affected areas,” he added.

Executive Secretary of KOSEMA, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, praised Governor Ododo for his quick response and commitment to providing shelter and relief materials to victims.

He noted that over 76,000 people were accommodated in IDP camps last year, with no recorded deaths, and confirmed that 42 camps have already been activated to manage current and potential victims.

Atimah also reported that parts of Kogi, Lokoja, and Ibaji LGAs are already affected by flooding this year.

Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Agada Eleojo, commended KOSEMA and the State Response Team for their proactive efforts and pledged the Ministry’s continued collaboration to mitigate the disaster’s impact.

Reactions as Lagos is hit by severe flooding, causing havoc & residents stranded

0

Several areas of Lagos State were heavily impacted by flooding on Wednesday morning following a downpour that submerged streets and disrupted movement across the city.

Residents in the state on X reported difficulty leaving their homes and navigating major roads as floodwaters covered streets and blocked traffic.

In Ago Palace Way, including Apple Junction and Ago Bridge, as well as Mile 2, vehicles and motorcycles struggled to pass through the waterlogged roads, according to videos shared on social media.

One X user, JustOzed, posted, “Earlier today, September 23rd, 2025, after a heavy downpour, parts of Lagos, including Ago Palace Way (Apple Junction, Ago Bridge) and Mile 2, were flooded. I captured these scenes to show the reality we face every rainy season.”

The video shows floodwaters rising to cover gutters along the road, causing traffic congestion.

Residents highlighted both government and community responsibilities in addressing the flooding.

“The Lagos State Government has been working—clearing drains, expanding canals, and opening new water channels—but government efforts alone are not enough. We, the people, must do our part: stop dumping refuse in gutters, keep drainage paths free of blockage, obey urban planning rules. If we all cooperate, flooding can be drastically reduced. Let’s protect our city and make Lagos a true Centre of Excellence,” JustOzed added.

A scholar has made remarks about Prophet Muhammad, sparking protest and outrage in Kano

0

Some residents of Kano, Northwest Nigeria, on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest over alleged blasphemous comments made by Islamic cleric, Sheikh Lawan Abubakar Triumph, about Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The demonstrators gathered at the premises of the Kano Government House, where Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received them and addressed their concerns.

The controversy stems from a recent viral video in which the cleric was seen questioning reports in some Islamic texts about issues surrounding the birth of the Prophet.

This is not the first time the scholar has made remarks about the prophet that sparked intense outrage in Kano.

Governor Yusuf, while addressing the protesters, urged them to remain calm and assured them that the matter would be handled properly.

“Insha’Allah, we will take action that does not contradict the Shari’a,” the governor said.

“What I want you to do is to go back and write a formal petition to the governor, which will then be used officially at every level,” he added.

The protesters agreed to submit the formal petition to the governor by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Police wants Anambra Senator Andy Uba arrested over a N400 million job scam – details

0

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun has formally asked a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of ex-senator Andy Uba over a N400 million job scam.
The police intend to arrest Uba and bring him to court for trial.

The IGP sought the arrest order on Wednesday following the persistent absence of Uba, who once represented Anambra South in the Senate, to appear in court for arraignment over the alleged appointment fraud.

The trial judge, Justice Mohammed Umar had, in July, slated Wednesday for the arraignment of Uba and his co-defendant, Benjamin Etu.
When the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/538/2024 was called on Wednesday, counsel to the defendants, C.L Odiniru apologised for Uba’s absence and said the former senator is sick and receiving treatment in the United States.

Counsel to the prosecution (IGP), Aminu Abdullahi, however told the court that the defense counsel had, during previous proceedings in the matter, given sickness as a reason for the absence of the first defendant without adducing any documentary evidence to show that he is actually sick and cannot face his trial.
Abdullahi prayed that the court issue a bench warrant for the arrest of the former senator.

Defence counsel, Odiniru, opposed the application for a bench warrant and following a directive of the court, said the defense has obtained documents showing that Uba is receiving treatment abroad.
But responding, Abdullahi said granting the application for bench warrant will be in the best interest of justice.

Justice Umar who was apparently angry over the repeated absence of Andy Uba, said the court will do whatever it takes to ensure that he is present to face his trial if he failed to come to court on the next adjourned date.

“I will give you another opportunity by giving you another date. This case must be heard this year. Even if it means issuing a bench warrant of arrest, the court will do that,” the judge said and adjourned the matter till October 28, 2025 for Uba and his co-defendant to take their plea.
It would be recalled that the prosecution had, on March 5, 2025, amended a two-count charge filed against Uba and his co-defendant, Benjamin Etu, before the former trial judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo.
The police had earlier named Uba and two others in the first charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/538/2024.

The co-defendants, in the two-count charge filed on October 10, 2024 by Abdulrashid Sidi in the Legal/Prosecution Section at the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, were Crystal Uba and Benjamin Etu as 2nd and 3rd defendants, respectively.
But in the amended charge filed March 4, 2025, by Sidi, Uba and Etu are listed as 1st and 2nd defendants, while Crystal Uba’s name was dropped.
In count one, it was alleged that Uba, Etu and Hajiya Fatima, now at large, sometimes in 2022, conspired amongst themselves to commit the offence.

Uba and others were accused of obtaining by false pretence, by making a presentation to Mr George Uboh that they had perfected ways for giving appointment as Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to any interested person who could afford N400 million.

“A presentation which you know is not true and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 8 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related offences Act, 2006,” the charge stated.

The offence, the prosecution said, is contrary to Section 1 (2) and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related offences Act, 2006.

Uboh, in a letter dated April 5, 2023, and addressed to the IGP, said the petition was based on documentary evidence and voice recording, adding that the evidence is overwhelming and irrefutable.
No fewer than six witnesses had been listed to testify against the ex-lawmaker and Etu.

The case was re-assigned to Justice Umar, following the suspension of the former judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, by the National Judicial Council, NJC.
