COMPLETE LIST: 10 fastest players to score 100 goals for one club

0

Scoring 100 goals for a single club is an achievement few players ever reach; doing it quickly is what sets the greats apart.

According to Planet Football, this list highlights the 10 fastest players to hit the 100-goal milestone in all competitions, ranked by how few games it took them to get there.

10. Kylian Mbappe (PSG) – 137 Games

Given he burst onto the scene as a teenager in Monaco’s extraordinary run to the Champions League semi-finals, as well as winning the Ligue 1 title in 2017, it should be no surprise that PSG broke the bank for Mbappe’s signature (originally on loan) in the same summer they spent €222million on Neymar.

And his scoring record in Paris was nothing to be sniffed at.

9. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) – 136 Games

Lewandowski had already established himself as one of Europe’s best No.9s with a key role in back-to-back Bundesliga titles for Borussia Dortmund, as well as unforgettably scoring four goals in one game against Real Madrid in the 2013 Champions League semi-final.

It was no surprise, then, that the prolific centre-forward continued to keep banging in the goals after joining Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich on a free transfer the following summer.

He was unable to eclipse Gerd Muller’s outrageous record of 365 Bundesliga goals before moving to Barcelona, but came close with 312 and did take the record off him for most goals in a single season, scoring 41 in 2020-21.

8. Edinson Cavani (Napoli) – 135 Games

Things weren’t so successful in year two at Old Trafford, but Cavani became an instant fan favourite with his Indian summer stint at Manchester United, having arrived in Manchester in 2020 after overtaking Zlatan Ibrahimovic to become PSG’s all-time top scorer.

But it was arguably at Napoli where the Uruguayan was at his very best, scoring 104 goals in 138 appearances across three seasons between 2010 and 2013.

That kind of record could have seen him become a Maradona-esque deity at the Stadio San Paulo if he’d played in a better side.

7. Ruud Van Nistelrooy (Man Utd) – 131 Games

Sir Alex Ferguson had to be patient for the Dutch striker to eventually show up at Old Trafford, after his original proposed move was delayed due to a cruciate ligament injury.

That didn’t stop his poacher’s instinct, though, and he was worth the wait once he eventually did arrive, hitting the ground running from day one.

“He’s just a ruthless, ruthless goalscorer. He just lived for scoring goals. Whenever he did score or didn’t score, the first thing he would do when we got on the team bus, after the game, was see if Henry scored,” Paul Scholes later told the UTD Podcast.

“If Henry had scored, he wouldn’t talk to anybody for the full trip home because he was so engrossed in being the leading goalscorer. Not just at United but in the league, in the world, everywhere.”

6. Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) – 131 Games

Five-time Ballon d’Or-winner Ronaldo had won the Champions League in four of his last five years at Real Madrid and is the competition’s all-time top scorer.

So there was a certain degree of logic when Juventus signed him in 2018, as the final piece of the puzzle to win Ol’ Big Ears, having long since conquered domestic Italian football.

Things didn’t quite work out that way, with shock exits to Ajax, Lyon, and Porto, but Ronaldo at least did bang in the goals in Italy, scoring his 100th goal in just 131 appearances in all competitions – even if it did cripple the Old Lady financially.

5. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (PSG) – 124 Games

Ibrahimovic had already won four Serie A titles with three different clubs, two Eredivisie titles with Ajax, and a La Liga title with Barcelona when he became a statement signing for newly-minted PSG in 2012.

Not only did he win the title in each of his four years in the French capital, but he scored at least 30 goals in each, peaking with 50 goals in 51 appearances in his final season there. Fair to say he delivered what was expected.

4. Luis Suarez (Barcelona) – 120 Games

Norwich City fans still have nightmares about Suarez at his terrifying best at Liverpool, but they could breathe a sigh of relief when he left, becoming Barcelona’s record signing in the summer of 2014.

Having served a four-match ban for all football activities, dished out by FIFA after he chomped on Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil, he was quite literally chomping at the bit once he was able to get started at the Camp Nou, fitting into an irresistible attack alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi.

Suarez scored 25 goals in 39 appearances as Barcelona won the treble in 2014-15, and didn’t slow down from there, scoring 59 goals the following year, and eventually 198 across his six years there.

Needless to say, Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert struggled to fill his shoes at Anfield.

=3. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – 105 Games

Florentino Perez’s second Galactico project kicked off with the world-record signing of Ronaldo in 2009, arriving off the back of three successive Premier League titles with Manchester United.

The Portuguese icon had to be patient for silverware, with nothing in his first season, and only the Copa del Rey in his second, but goals were not a problem.

He scored a respectable 33 goals in 35 appearances in his first season under Manuel Pellegrini, which was actually his worst return in nine years, going on to score at least 50 goals six seasons running between 2010 and 2016, and eventually comfortably surpassing Raul as Los Blancos’ all-time top scorer.

2. Erling Haaland (Man City) – 105 games

Signing for a bargain £51million in 2022, a brace on his Premier League debut against West Ham was just the beginning of a brain-melting campaign, as Haaland scored 38 goals in all competitions and won the continental treble.

The big man hit his century for City at the beginning of his third season with the club, with a well-taken strike against Arsenal.

1. Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) – 104 games

Harry Kane scored twice to reach 100 goals for Bayern Munich on Friday as the German champions continued their perfect start to the Bundesliga season with a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen. Not bad for a one-season wonder.

Disinformation Domino: Japan Scraps Africa Exchange Program after Bayo Onanuga shared false news

0

A key Japanese cultural exchange initiative with African nations has been abruptly scrapped, a direct casualty of a vicious online misinformation campaign that began with an erroneous public statement from a Nigerian presidential aide and was amplified globally by X owner, Elon Musk.

The incident highlights the volatile global impact of fake news, where local errors are weaponized by divisive rhetoric to shape international policy.

The Nigerian Peddler of Rhetoric

The chain of events began with an incorrect initial statement, reportedly issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Information and Strategy. Onanuga, a figure widely known for his sometimes divisive and inflammatory public rhetoric, is often seen by critics as a key purveyor of politically charged narratives.

In Nigeria’s public service, where a lack of accountability for damaging statements is frequently observed, Onanuga has largely managed to retain his influential position. His office’s initial error regarding the Japan exchange initiative provided the first spark for the global crisis.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) program—the Africa Hometown scheme—was purely for cultural understanding and job training, with no link to visas or migration. However, the erroneous Nigerian government statement suggested that Japan would be creating a “special visa category.”

From Local Error to Global Populism

This initial, false claim was immediately seized upon by anti-immigration forces online, spreading like wildfire and turning an innocuous cultural scheme into a perceived threat to Japan’s borders.

The crisis reached a tipping point when Elon Musk, the United States-based billionaire and owner of X (formerly Twitter), injected his influential voice into the debate. Musk, who has been repeatedly accused of promoting far-right and populist narratives to interfere in the politics of other nations, amplified the xenophobic claims.

Commenting on the false narrative, the billionaire issued a stark warning that fueled the panic: “If this continues, there will be no Japan, just some islands where Japanese people used to live.”

Consequence: JICA Overwhelmed and Programme Scrapped

Musk’s high-profile contribution accelerated the spread of fear and hostility across Japan, forcing local authorities in the four participating Japanese cities to suspend normal operations. They were inundated with complaints, with one city reportedly fielding up to 200 angry calls a day.

Faced with a deluge of backlash driven by misunderstandings and fear of increased immigration, JICA President Akihiko Tanaka announced the termination of the initiative.

“Reactions spread based on misunderstandings and confusion,” Tanaka told reporters in Tokyo. “The Africa Hometown initiative will be withdrawn.”

The episode serves as a chilling case study: a local government’s error, combined with the power of a global disinformation peddler and the reach of social media platforms, was enough to overwhelm a government aid agency and shut down a diplomatic project, cementing the victory of populist, anti-immigrant narratives over cooperation.

Dangote Refinery resumes Petrol Sales in Naira

0

The volatility in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector has stabilized for now. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the immediate resumption of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)—petrol—sales in Naira nationwide, following a swift intervention by the government.

The refinery communicated the positive development to its customers on Saturday, confirming that the suspension of local currency transactions has been lifted.

“Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Technical Committee chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS Sales in Naira commencing immediately.”

The quick action allows customers to immediately place orders for self-collection or free delivery across Nigeria, reinstating a critical path for naira-based fuel distribution.

Struggle for Naira-Priced Crude

The temporary halt in Naira sales stemmed from a persistent struggle to fully implement the Federal Government’s Naira-to-Crude initiative.

  • The Policy: Announced in October 2024, the initiative promised to supply local refineries, including the Dangote facility, with crude oil priced in the local currency. This was meant to reduce pressure on the US Dollar and stabilize domestic fuel prices.
  • The Reality: Implementation has been inconsistent. The government’s plan was to sell 450,000 barrels per day (bpd) in Naira to local refineries, with Dangote expected to receive 385,000 bpd.
  • Allocations Gap: However, records show the refinery has consistently received far less. For instance, in February 2025, Dangote received only 61,290 bpd in Naira allocation, and by March 2025, a significant portion of the allocated crude had to be purchased in US Dollars. This progressive reduction in Naira-priced crude forced the refinery to temporarily demand dollar payments for its refined products.

The latest intervention by the Naira for Crude Technical Committee chairman signals a renewed push to address these allocation inconsistencies, ensuring the refinery receives enough local currency crude to sustain Naira-based transactions. This development is a major relief for the downstream sector and Nigerian consumers who rely on domestic refining for stable prices.

National Emergency: PENGASSAN Declares Nationwide Strike, Orders Full Shutdown of Oil & Gas Sector

The industrial dispute has exploded into a national crisis. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has escalated its action against the Dangote Refinery into a full-blown nationwide strike, effective 12:01 AM on Monday, September 29, 2025.

The union has instructed all members across the oil and gas value chain to withdraw their services, effectively paralyzing the sector and simultaneously ensuring a complete cessation of supplies to the embattled Dangote Refinery.

The Timetable for the Shutdown

The union’s National Executive Council (NEC) resolution lays out a phased, non-negotiable withdrawal of services, starting immediately:

PhaseTimingDirectiveImpact
Phase 1 (Field)6:00 AM, Sunday, September 28, 2025All members in field locations must withdraw services, including control room, panel, and outfield operations.Halts critical production and monitoring activities, converting work sites into “24-hour prayer vigils.”
Phase 2 (Nationwide)12:01 AM, Monday, September 29, 2025All PENGASSAN members across all offices, companies, institutions, and agencies must withdraw all services.Complete paralysis of administrative and technical services across the entire Nigerian oil and gas sector.

Export to Sheets

Targeting the Dangote Refinery

The strike order explicitly confirms PENGASSAN’s central demand by mandating a targeted shutdown of the Dangote facility:

  • Supply Cut: All processes that facilitate gas and crude supply to the Dangote Refinery “should be let off effectively immediately.”
  • IOC Compliance: All International Oil Company (IOC) branches are specifically instructed to “ramp down”gas production and supply to both the Dangote Refinery and petrochemicals plant.

The union stressed that no intervention will be entertained at field locations unless it involves a risk to personnel and assets, and even then, clearance must come from the National Secretariat.

In a dramatic move, the union included a spiritual element in its directive, instructing members to commence a round-the-clock prayer vigil.

The prayer point, according to the resolution, should be a call to God to “give courage to those in authority to rein in Dangote and his co-travelers on the need to obey the laws of our country.”

The union reaffirmed its hardline stance against the tycoon and his company with the powerful declaration: “No man is bigger than our country. An injury to one is an injury to all.”

Dangote Refinery blasts PENGASSAN shutdown Order as ‘Criminality and Economic Sabotage’

0

The industrial dispute between the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has spiralled into a full-blown crisis, with the refinery publicly accusing the union of attempting to cause “mayhem and chaos” that could lead to “anarchy.”

The refinery’s fiery response Saturday, the 27th of September 2025, comes just hours after PENGASSAN issued a directive ordering its members across multiple oil and gas companies to immediately cut off all crude oil and gas supplies to the facility.

Dangote’s Stance: A Brazen Display of Lawlessness

In a scathing statement released late Friday, the refinery’s management did not mince words, characterizing the union’s action as an unprecedented display of illegality.

“This is a brazen, albeit shocking, display of lawlessness and criminality by PENGASSAN,” the statement read.

The refinery drew attention to the union’s explicit instructions to its branches—including those at TotalEnergies, Seplat, Chevron, Oando, Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG), and NGIC—to halt supply valves and stop vessel loading operations immediately.

The Charge: Economic Sabotage and Anarchy

The core of Dangote’s argument rests on three points:

  1. Contractual Interference: The refinery argues PENGASSAN has no legal right to interfere with the supply contracts between Dangote and its third-party vendors. Disrupting these contracts, they assert, is a criminal conduct.
  2. Abandonment of Law: Dangote pointed out the hypocrisy of PENGASSAN’s earlier promise to pursue “legal actions,” only to swiftly abandon the courts for “mob action and the path that leads to mayhem and anarchy.”
  3. National Sabotage: The refinery escalated the issue, stating the directive amounts to “economic sabotage at multiple levels.” By ordering the shutdown, PENGASSAN is directly attempting to disrupt and stop the flow of vital refined products—including petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, and cooking gas—to Nigerians, potentially inflicting “insufferable hardship” on the populace.

The statement concluded by questioning whose interest the union is serving by directing such a “criminal disruption” upon Nigerian society.

This high-stakes standoff now pits a major union defending workers’ rights against the nation’s most crucial industrial project, which is fighting to protect its operations by invoking the threat of national economic collapse.

The Epstein Files: Elon Musk Joins the Roster of Global Elites Named in Newly Released Documents

0

The shadow cast by the late financier and convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein, continues to grow. A recent batch of documents released by the House Oversight Committee has introduced new, high-profile names to the public record, including tech billionaire Elon Musk.

The new records—which include daily schedules, flight logs, and financial disclosures spanning nearly three decades—reaffirm that Epstein maintained connections with some of the world’s most powerful and wealthy figures, often years after his 2008 conviction for state-level sex crimes.

The Latest Revelation: Elon Musk

The most significant new inclusion is Elon Musk. His name appeared in a calendar entry dated December 6, 2014, which noted a potential trip: “Reminder: Elon Musk to island Dec. 6 (is this still happening?).”

This entry suggests a possible visit to Epstein’s infamous private island, Little St James, which occurred six years after Epstein was registered as a sex offender. Musk has publicly denied ever visiting the island. The revelation is particularly noteworthy as Musk himself had previously challenged political figures to release the Epstein files, alleging they were suppressing information.

The Public Roster: High-Profile Names Linked to Epstein

The numerous batches of unsealed documents and court filings have publicly revealed a wide array of individuals who interacted with Epstein or were mentioned in his records. It is crucial to note that the inclusion of a name in these files does not imply guilt or knowledge of Epstein’s sex trafficking crimes. Many of the individuals mentioned are not accused of any wrongdoing.

The high-profile list includes:

CategoryIndividualContext in Documents/Media
RoyaltyPrince Andrew, Duke of YorkListed on flight manifests for Epstein’s private jet as early as 2000. Financial ledgers also reference payments for “massages” for an individual named “Andrew.”
U.S. PoliticsBill Clinton (Former U.S. President)Mentioned in flight logs for multiple trips aboard Epstein’s jet in the early 2000s, often related to Clinton Foundation work.
U.S. PoliticsDonald Trump(Current U.S. President)Mentioned in documents, though not accused of any illegality. He once described Epstein as a “terrific guy” in a 2002 magazine interview.
U.S. PoliticsSteve Bannon(Former Trump Strategist)Calendar entries show a planned breakfast meeting with Epstein in February 2019.
Technology/BusinessPeter Thiel (Tech Billionaire/Venture Capitalist)Calendar entries indicate a planned lunch meeting with Epstein in November 2017.
Academia/LawAlan Dershowitz(Prominent Lawyer)Named in the files in connection with the litigation against Epstein.
AcademiaStephen Hawking(Late Physicist)Mentioned in the documents as having been invited to a function hosted by Epstein.
EntertainmentDavid Copperfield(Magician)Mentioned in a witness deposition as having been seen at one of Epstein’s residences.
EntertainmentMichael Jackson(Late Musician)Also mentioned in a deposition as having visited Epstein’s Palm Beach mansion.

The consistent release of these records, often years after Epstein’s death in 2019, underscores the vast reach of his connections and fuels the ongoing, politically charged investigation into who, if anyone, was complicit in his crimes and how he escaped justice for so long.

Edo Governor Okpebholo approves N914 Million Payout to APC Chieftain, Tony Kabaka

0

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved a massive payment of ?914 million as compensation to the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Youth Leader, Mr. Tony Adun, popularly known as “Kabaka.” The decision settles a long-running, politically charged legal battle stemming from the demolition of Adun’s property under the previous administration.

The multi-million-naira T. Latifah Hotel and Suites, located in the high-brow Ugbor axis of GRA, Benin, was demolished on February 5, 2020, during the tenure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki, who claimed the structure was illegally built on government land.

Upholding the Rule of Law

The Edo State Executive Council (EXCO) resolved to approve the payment, a move confirmed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu.

Ohonbamu explained that the compensation was necessary because Adun had successfully challenged the demolition in court and won the case. Although the ruling was against the previous administration, Governor Okpebholo chose to implement the court’s decision, positioning his government as one that respects the rule of law.

“As a governor who believes that decisions of the court are to be obeyed, today (Friday), EXCO has approved the sum the court asked to be paid. The beneficiary will know that we have a governor who is thoughtful, law-abiding, and believes that justice must be rooted in confidence,” Ohonbamu stated.

Political Fulfillment and Public Promise

The compensation payment fulfills a promise made by Governor Okpebholo to Kabaka. Just a day before the official approval, during the Democracy Day celebration on June 13, 2025, Adun shared the Governor’s pledge in a viral video.

Adun expressed his profound gratitude for the commitment:

“What makes my Democracy Day today is His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who have promised Kabaka that they will rebuild my hotel this morning. May God bless you all as you join me to celebrate my lost hotel,” he said.

The approval of the court-mandated compensation, totaling nearly one billion Naira, is viewed as a significant move by the Okpebholo administration to heal political rifts and demonstrate respect for judicial authority, particularly by making amends with a prominent leader from the ruling party.

DSS Arrests Kaduna Influencer Sarki Sultan Over Alleged Cybercrime and Extortion

The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a prominent Kaduna-based social media influencer, known by the handle @Sarki_Sultan, over his alleged involvement in serious cyber-related offences, including threats and potentially cyber-extortion.

Security sources, including analyst Zagazola Makama, confirmed the arrest was carried out in the early hours of Saturday following a series of formal petitions lodged against the influencer.

The Allegations: Threats and Cyber-Extortion

The investigation was triggered after a specific complainant alleged that Sarki Sultan had threatened to expose her private and sensitive images on social media platforms. Preliminary findings by the security agency reportedly uncovered several activities linked to the allegations, suggesting a deeper pattern of misuse of his influence.

The DSS, which handles internal security and intelligence, takes such cyber-related crimes seriously, particularly when they involve public figures using their platforms for intimidation or extortion. The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be formally charged to court on Monday, once the ongoing investigation is concluded.

Influencers Under the Security Microscope

This arrest is the latest in a series of actions taken by Nigerian security agencies against influential social media personalities. In recent years, the DSS and the police have intensified their scrutiny of high-profile users over issues ranging from defamation and incitement to cybercrime and spreading fake news.

This trend highlights a crucial evolution in Nigerian security focus:

  • Cybercrime: Security agencies are actively monitoring influential social media accounts involved in threats, blackmail, and fraud, recognizing the real-world harm caused by digital crimes.
  • Political Discourse: Activists and influencers on both sides of the political spectrum have faced arrests, often on charges related to incitement or cybercrime, following controversial posts. This has raised ongoing debates about the line between free speech and national security.
  • Accountability: The crackdown signals a growing effort by the DSS to hold influential figures accountable for their online activities, particularly when those activities violate privacy or lead to harassment and financial exploitation.

The case of @Sarki_Sultan specifically underscores the danger when influence is allegedly weaponized for personal gain or malice, and it serves as a stark warning to content creators nationwide.

Sanwo-Olu’s Aide Unleashes Racial Slur on Labour Party Candidate, Rhodes-Vivour

0

Mr. Wale Ajetunmobi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, the 26th of September 2025, deployed a derogatory racial slur targeting the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

The attack came via Ajetunmobi’s X (formerly Twitter) account and was directed at Rhodes-Vivour, who was in Ibadan alongside other dignitaries for the coronation of the revered Ibadan monarch, the Olubadan.

In a since-deleted post, the Governor’s aide wrote, “Ibadan people don carry monkey go market,” a deeply offensive, racially charged statement often used to cast aspersions on the character and origins of individuals. By deploying this bigotry, Ajetunmobi attempted to mock Rhodes-Vivour’s presence in the city and his political support base.

Ajetunmobi is known on social media for frequently employing divisive rhetoric and bigotry against political opponents. However, this particular attack, which implicated the entire populace of Ibadan, proved to be a line crossed. It triggered a swift and furious backlash from Nigerians, especially those from Ibadan, who decried the language as an alien and destructive form of political campaigning.

Rhodes-Vivour and Ibadan’s Dignified Response

The gubernatorial candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, responded to the insult by elevating the conversation, paying homage to the spirit of Ibadan rather than descending into the gutter of bigotry.

In a poignant message written in Yoruba, he lauded the city’s principled stand:

“IBADAN, IBADAN, IBADAN, mesiogo nílé Oluyole. ?m? a gbeni níjà má b??rù ??t??. Ibadan, ? ?eun, mo dúp??!!

Yesterday, I saw IBADAN take a collective stand against Bigotry, I remember the collective stand they took to support Igboho during the herdsmen crisis, the open stand against RUGA, the creation of Amotekun, I remember how IBADAN and her leaders managed ENDSARS. It is not by accident that you are THE PACE SETTER. ? ?eun, Mo dúp?? o.”

Rhodes-Vivour was gracious, his response positioned the city of Ibadan as a historic and incorruptible “PACE SETTER”—a place that consistently stands against oppression and injustice, from the herdsmen crisis to the management of the #EndSARS protests. His message brilliantly countered the aide’s narrow-minded attack with a broad, historical appreciation for the city’s integrity.

Background of Controversy: A Pattern of Recklessness

This is not the first time Mr. Ajetunmobi’s rhetoric has necessitated official intervention. In 2024, Governor Sanwo-Olu was compelled to suspend him for what the government termed “misrepresentation of facts on his personal X account.”

That 2024 incident involved Ajetunmobi’s now-deleted post concerning the extrajudicial killings of individuals allegedly involved in the 2020 #EndSARS protests, specifically the arson attack on TVC.

  • Ajetunmobi had claimed: “The full story of people who burnt down TVC in 2020 will be told one day, with gory clips and images. One thing to note: majority of them have been hunted down and executed.
  • He also suggested that one of the arsonists was “found with AK-47 at the site.”

When challenged on the implication of extrajudicial killings, he attempted to clarify that the individuals were overpowered by soldiers and killed during an exchange of gunfire. However, the initial, chilling statement and his subsequent use of racial slurs underscore a troubling pattern of reckless public commentary and the deployment of inflammatory language in his political engagement.

The latest incident reaffirms the persistent challenge Nigerian politics faces in battling bigotry and hate speech, particularly when it emanates from the offices of high-ranking government officials.

Crystal Palace ended Liverpool’s perfect start to this season with a thrilling 2-1 victory on Saturday

0

Crystal Palace ended Liverpool’s perfect start to this season with a thrilling 2-1 victory on Saturday.

The Reds came into the game having won five games on the bounce since the start of the season.

But the Premier League champions were overwhelmed in the first half by Palace, who should have scored up to four goals.

Instead, Oliver Glasner’s men had only Ismaila Sarr’s goal to show for it at the break.

After the break, they failed to double their advantage, before Federico Chiesa came off the bench to level for Liverpool.

However, there was late drama, as Eddie Nketiah smashed in a 98th minute winner for Palace, to ensure their unbeaten start to the season continues.

US revokes the visa of Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro

0

The US State Department said Friday it would revoke the visa of Colombia’s leftist President Gustavo Petro for his “incendiary actions” during a pro-Palestinian street protest in New York.

“Earlier today, Colombian president @petrogustavo stood on a NYC street and urged US soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence,” the State Department said in a post on X.

“We will revoke Petro’s visa due to his reckless and incendiary actions,” it said.

On his social media account, Petro shared a video of himself speaking Spanish to a large crowd through a megaphone Friday, with his translator then relaying his comments calling on “nations of the world” to contribute soldiers for an army “larger than that of the United States.”

“That is why, from here in New York, I ask all soldiers in the United States Army not to point their rifles at humanity. Disobey Trump’s order! Obey the order of humanity!” Petro said.

A source from the president’s office confirmed to AFP that Petro was traveling to Bogota on Friday night.

Petro has said he has Italian citizenship and would not need a visa to enter the United States.

Petro was in New York for the UN General Assembly, where he rebuked the Trump administration fiercely and called for a criminal inquiry into recent US strikes on alleged drug trafficking boats in the Caribbean in his Tuesday address.

Petro said unarmed “poor young people” died in the strikes — more than a dozen in total — but Washington contends the actions are part of a US anti-drug operation off the coast of Venezuela, whose president Washington accuses of running a cartel.

Trump has dispatched eight warships and a submarine to the southern Caribbean, and the biggest US deployment in years has raised fears in Venezuela of an invasion.

Petro, whose country is the world’s biggest cocaine producer, has said he suspects some of those killed in the US boat strikes were Colombian.

Last week, the Trump administration decertified Colombia as an ally in the fight against drugs, but stopped short of imposing economic sanctions.

The countries are historical allies, but ties have soured under Petro — Colombia’s first-ever leftist leader.

The South American country’s Interior Minister Armando Benedetti wrote on X Friday night that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visa should have been revoked rather than Petro’s.

“But since the empire protects him, it’s taking it out on the only president who was capable enough to tell him the truth to his face.”

South-East no longer Obidient, we’ll vote Tinubu in 2027 – Read more on how Umahi mocks Peter Obi

0

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, on Saturday declared that the South-East, and Ebonyi State in particular, will vote for President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Umahi made the declaration while noting that there is no space for the Peter Obi-led Obidient Movement in Ebonyi State.

The minister, a former governor of Ebonyi State, spoke during the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival in Onicha LGA of the state.

According to Umahi, the South-East has been so marginalized that the region is no longer obedient.

He said: “We are not Obidient people. We have been so marginalized that we are no longer Obidient. No, we are not.

“But it is the man who has given us a sense of belonging, President Bola Tinubu. Let it not be that we are from Ebonyi State and they are saying this state belongs to us. There is no Obidient person in Ebonyi State.”

Umahi said in 2027, the South-East – and Ebonyi State in particular – will reciprocate Tinubu’s good deeds by voting for him.

He insisted that the South-East and the state will not be ‘deceived again’ in 2027.

“What we have to do is to record the good things that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done for the South-East and Ebonyi State when the time comes.

“We will not be deceived again because the last election was a mistake but we have come to be wiser. I will not finish naming all that the President is doing for us,” he added.
