What Happened In Kirikiri Was A Riot & Not A Jailbreak – Prison Service

The Nigerian Prison Service has said that there was no jailbreak in the Medium Security Prison Kirikiri, Lagos on Friday.

There was an attempted Kirikiri Medium Prison, Apapa area of Lagos friday afternoon, in which scores were said have been killed.

Officers of the Nigerian Navy and the Kirikiri Police Station were said to have been called in to assist the men of the Nigerian Prison Service to safeguared the prison.

The spokesperson of the prison service, Mr. Ope Fatiniku said in an electronic mail made available to NewsWireNGR on Saturday that “Indeed, there was a riot at medium Security Prison kirikiri,Lagos yesterday(Friday 10/10/2014) at 1330hrs.”

He said the situation was immediately put under control by the prison authority. He added that there was no any case of escapee prisoner.

Ope said that the Acting Comptroller General of Prisons, Aminu A Suley,mni has immediately set up a probe panel to investigate the reasons of the riot.

However the Prison service confirmed that one person died while seven (7) inmates injured.

According to him three(3) of the injured were treated and discharged from the Prison’s Clinic, while four(4) were admitted in various hospitals.

The dead inmates was one of the four that were admitted in the hospitals whose identities were not disclosed due to security reasons.
