Nigerian Govt Makes U-Turn, Orders Schools To Resume On September 22

The Federal Government has directed all schools to resume on September 22. The postponement of resumption date of schools to October 13, had been a precautionary measure against the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease.

However, the date has been shifted forward to September 22 following a review ordered by the Federal Executive Council, FEC .

The FEC, recently ordered the Minister of Education, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, to review the directive given to schools over their resumption, following the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria.

Minister of Education,Ibrahim Shekarau, had last week Tuesday directed all primary and secondary schools both private and public owned to remain closed till October.

Shekarau, had briefed journalists after meeting with States Commissioners of Education, on the risk posed by the dreaded Ebola virus disease in the education sector.

The Minister said the change in the resumption date would ensure adequate preventive measures are put in place before the students report back to school.

As part of reactionary measures to curb the further spread of the Ebola virus disease, the Federal government stopped the resumption of all primary and secondary schools in Nigeria shortly after the summer breaks ended.
