Best Countries In The World To Visit In 2022

By Balogun Kamilu Lekan

According to the 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards, these are the best nations in the world.

5. India

India, the second-most populous nation in the world, is a gorgeously chaotic place where the technicolour tuk-tuks that line the streets and the pungent aromatic spices that fill the air are delightfully juxtaposed with the myriad of peaceful yoga retreats and secret sanctuaries hidden in the hilltops.

The best time to see the sights in Goa and Kerala is during monsoon season, while Jaipur, unquestionably one of India’s most beautiful cities, is a year-round destination with a wealth of things to do.

4. Singapore

This diamond-shaped island is one of South East Asia’s most popular travel destinations, fitting for its glitzy reputation. The city-state, perched on the Malay Peninsula’s tip, has an impressive trophy cabinet considering its diminutive size.

Singapore is not only a haven for shoppers, but its flagship airline and the food served on board are among the best in the world. With nearly half of its land set aside for parks and gardens, the city is also one of the greenest.

The original grand dame of the city was painstakingly restored a few years ago at Raffles Singapore.

3. Thailand

Thailand is a popular tropical destination with abundant secluded hideaways, breathtaking tropical islands, and spas all exude rest and renewal. In the meantime, any weary traveller will find joy in Bangkok’s vibrant nightlife and delicious street food. Chiang Mai is a must-see for thrill-seekers, but Phuket should also be on your travel itinerary.

Destination hotels and off-the-beaten-path lodgings are both among Thailand’s top accommodations. The undisputed leader in the Thai wellness industry is Chiva Som, while Six Senses Yao Noi is the ideal getaway.

2. Japan

Japan only opened its doors to visitors in the middle of 2022 and had some of the strictest travel restrictions during the pandemic. The hotels in Japan are now open for check-in, and Kyoto’s streets and cafés are begging for diners.

The sakura season, which lasts from late March to mid-April, draws tourists, but in the winter, Niseko’s snow-capped mountains keep them away. If a beach vacation sounds appealing, head south to the subtropical archipelago of Okinawa. If moving to Japan sounds appealing, pick Osaka — it has consistently been ranked among the best cities in the world.

1. Portugal

It’s understandable why Portugal came in first place on this list; the country’s top hotels are among the best places to stay, and the coastline’s numerous sparkling golden beaches are a sight to behold. Lisbon’s dining scene is also a foodie’s paradise, and the Portuguese countryside has some fantastic retreats.

The hotel scene here is constantly changing; for recommendations on city breaks, check out our edit of Lisbon’s prettiest hotels and where to stay in Porto, or learn about Portugal’s best family hotels for ideas for the whole gang.
