The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday, inaugurated the party ‘s Presidential Campaign Council in line with the 2023 elections timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
This is as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, and the Labour Party presidential standard bearer, Peter Obi, had postponed the inauguration of their campaign councils, citing various reasons.
2. CBN: N3.7trn Out of N9trn Intervention Funds Recovered, N5trn Not Due [ThisDay Newspaper]
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday clarified that out of the N9 trillion interventions it had disbursed in critical sectors of the economy, about N3.7 trillion had so far been repaid by beneficiaries while the about N5 trillion was not yet due for recovery.
The revelation by the central bank came just as various stakeholders in the Nigerian power sector lauded the CBN’s recent N120 billion intervention to close the wide electricity metering gap in the country.

Gunmen have attacked a police station at Iganna, a town in the Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to reports, the attack happened on Tuesday night triggering anxiety in the area.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday stepped down a motion to stop unruly behaviour of touts operating on major highways in the country.
The move followed the adoption of a motion by Rep. Lanre Edun (APC-Ogun) at plenary.
The motion is titled, “Need to Curb the Incessant and Unruly Behaviour of Touts Operating on Major Highways in Nigeria.”
The Speaker of the House of Reps, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, however, asked the lawmaker why he wanted to step down the bill.
Edun replied he would be stepping down the motion because of the need to consult widely, adding that such consultation was necessary to take the right step. Read more.
6. FG intensifies drug war, approves N580.5m to purchase armoured vehicles for NDLEA [NewsWireNGR]
The Federal Executive Council (FEC)has approved N580.5 million for the procurement of four armoured vehicles to fight dangerous and illicit drugs by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami made this known to State House correspondents at the end of the Council’s meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said: “Today, a memo was presented by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, that is the Federal Ministry of Justice, which was relating to a parastatal under the supervision of the office of the Attorney General; the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).” Read more.
7. Bullion van accident claims 6 lives in Kebbi [NewsWireNGR]
The Kebbi Police Command has confirmed the death of six people, including three policemen, in a multiple accident on Tuesday along Argungu-Birnin Kebbi road in the state.
The Spokesman of the command, SP Abubakar Nafi’u, said in a statement on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.
“The accident occurred when a Carina E car, carrying jerricans of PMS, was suspected to have been pursued by a Nigeria Customs Service patrol team from Birnin Kebbi.
“On getting to Jeda village, the Carina E car had a head-on collusion with the Bullion van, as a result, bursting into flames and consumed three other cars.” Read more.

The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Doguwa, says he has flagged off the presidential campaign within his household, with 28 children and four wives.
