Few weeks to Edo guber poll, Obaseki approves payment of gratuity to 2010 LG pensioners

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo has approved the payment of gratuities to pensioners on the payroll of the Local Government Staff Pension Board (LGSPB), who retired in 2010.

A statement by Mary Arewa, acting secretary of the board, on Wednesday in Benin said the pensioners had been invited for a screening exercise scheduled from August 26 to August 30 at 8 a.m.

She said the screening exercise would hold daily in the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Pension House, Kings Square, Benin City.

Ms Arewa said the pensioners were expected to present their letter of retirement, pensioner biometrics, pension identity card and pay advice during the exercise.

NewsWireNGR reports this is coming a few weeks to the state governorship election which is scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for September 21.

Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is gunning to be replaced by his party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
