PHOTOs: Yemi Alade’s iconic performance at AFCON 2023 opening ceremony

Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade, on Saturday, performed at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Shating the video of the performance, Total Energies AFCON on its official X handle captioned it, “Amazing opening ceremony performance from #yemialadee.”

The singer had earlier expressed her excitement ahead of the performance describing it “as an honor and a dream come true”.

Reflecting on her journey, she stated, “Since 2016, I have envisioned performing at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by hundreds of dancers and people.

“Seven years later, I’m performing at AFCON. It is indeed an honor and a dream come true. It’s just the beginning.”

Yemi Alade, recognised as one of the best female musicians in the country and on the continent, gained significant acclaim in the music industry after the release of her hit “Johnny” in 2014.

Known for her versatility, Alade performs her songs in French, Yoruba, and English. Her achievements include winning the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) for Best Female in both 2015 and 2016.
