The Chidi Ibe-led faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called for an end to the alleged deceptive tactics employed by Igbo political leaders about the release of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation noted that it has become a disheartening trend among Southeast political elites to exploit the dire situation for political gains.

In a statement by the Secretary General of the Ohanaeze faction, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group said that it is unfortunate that many Igbo political leaders have proven to be renegades against the populace, feigning concern for the release of Kanu, while manipulating the prevailing insecurity challenges to sustain their political positions and privileges.

Ohanaeze pointed out that this deceptive behaviour is a betrayal of Igbo people, saying that Ndigbo must recognise this truth.

It noted that unlike their counterparts in Afenifere, PANDEF, and Middlebelt political leadership and elders, who prioritise the welfare and well-being of their people, these Igbo political leaders have shown a lack of genuine commitment towards the betterment of Ndigbo and ending the ugly situation of insecurity in the region.

Isiguzoro emphasised the need for Biafra agitators to assist in restoring peace in the Southeast, and to understand the truth of the situation.

He said: “The judicial process surrounding the ongoing prosecution of Kanu must be allowed to reach a logical conclusion before his release can be considered, as it is the prerogative of the judiciary.”

MEANWHILE, Kanu has urged the judicial and administrative leadership of the Supreme Court to take prompt steps to transmit his file to the Federal High Court and also make the certified true copies of the court’s December 15, 2023, judgement available to his lawyers.

Kanu stated that doing so “is what justice of the case demands at this point in time.”

Reportedly, the Supreme Court had, in its December 15, 2023, judgment on Kanu’s appeal against the Federal High Court judgement, ordered the return of Kanu’s case to the Federal High Court to continue his trial.

Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, in a statement, on Monday, titled, ‘Nnamdi Kanu decries strange delay in transmitting his case file from the Supreme Court to the Federal High Court,’ said that Kanu decried the delayed transmission of the file and making the Certified True Copy of the SupremeCourt judgement  during his (Ejimakor) routine visitation to Kanu on January 8, 2024, at the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.
