1. Customs releases bullion van impounded with smuggled rice, N24m in Ogun [NewsWireNGR]

The Ogun Area Command II of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Friday said it has released the bullion van it impounded in April 2022 which was found loaded with rice.

The Customs Area Controller, Olusola Alade, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abeokuta, said the van was impounded after being found to contain 12 50kg bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice.

He added that the van, which was discovered to belong to an Abeokuta branch of Access Bank, was also loaded with the sum of N24.4 million. Read more.

2. Dangote Bounces Back to Number 1 Spot on Forbes List of African Richest Billionaires 2024 [NewsWireNGR]

Nigeria’s billionaire and long-term richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, has bounced back to reclaim the number one spot on Forbes Africa’s richest billionaires’ January 2024 ranking list.

NewsWireNGR reports that several reports hours ago claimed the Nigerian billionaire who has retained the spot for over a decade was displaced by South African billionaire, Johann Rupert & Family.

According to the reports, Johann Rupert and Family’s net worth was estimated at $10.3 billion, while Dangote’s net worth was estimated to be $9.5 billion.

However, a check by NewsWireNGR on Friday revealed Dangote’s net worth on the real-time tracker by Forbes was $10 billion, while Johann Rupert and Family’s net worth was $9.8 billion. Read more.

3. Forex scandal: Dangote officials summoned to Abuja as EFCC extends probe [Punch Newspaper]

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has summoned some officials of the Dangote Group to Abuja to come along with detailed documents on foreign exchange transactions by the conglomerate covering the last nine years.

Operatives of the EFCC had on Thursday stormed the headquarters of Dangote Industries Limited in Ikoyi, Lagos, in furtherance of the ongoing investigation into the alleged abuse of the foreign exchange allocations by the immediate past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

The anti-graft commission is probing the alleged preferential allocations of forex to the Dangote Group owned by billionaire Aliko Dangote and 51 other companies under the Emefiele-led CBN.

It was gathered on Friday that the operatives carted away some documents from the group’s head office on Thursday, but they did not cover all the transactions, hence the decision to summon the officials to bring the documents to Abuja on Tuesday.

4. ‘A Tribe Called Judah’: Tinubu reacts as Funke Akindele’s movie becomes first Nollywood film to gross N1bn [NewsWireNGR]

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, on the success of her latest movie, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’.

The president through a press statement through his Special Adviser to the President, (Media & Publicity) Chief Ajuri Ngelale, in his congratulatory message hailed the actress for her contribution in the industry.

Funke Akindele’s blockbuster, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, broke the box office record within 21 days of its release in cinemas to become the first Nollywood film to gross N1bn (One Billion Naira).

Ace Nollywood actress and producer of the movie, Funke Akindele, disclosed this on her Instagram page as she shared the N1bn feat flier.

5. Osimhen to sign Chelsea pre-contract agreement [Punch Newspaper]

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, has agreed to leave Serie A champions, Napoli, for a move to Chelsea in the summer, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

According to TEAMtalk, the 25-year-old, who has a release clause of around £112m, will not be moving this month but is willing to sign a pre-agreement in January before making the switch to Chelsea official at the end of the season.

The report also states that the likes of Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel have been in regular contact with Osimhen, hoping to persuade him to join Chelsea.

Chelsea have been keen to add a top centre-forward to their ranks for the majority of this season and have Osimhen at the top of their list.
