Who is Alex Okosi?
Alex Okosi is a Nigerian business executive who served as the Managing Director, Emerging Markets, YouTube EMEA, for three years until his appointment by the company as the new Managing Director of Google Africa.
Education
Okosi’s education started in Enugu until he was 12. He visited his brother in the United States (US) and convinced his family to allow him to stay to complete his education there.
He subsequently studied at schools in New York, Missouri, Nebraska and Florida before attending Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire.
Okosi would later graduate magna cum laude with a dual major in Business Administration and Economics from St Michael’s College in Vermont.
Marriage
He is married to Ziyanda Okosi.
Career
Okosi joined MTV Networks in 1998 as part of the Trade and Integrated Marketing team in New York. He would later move to Los Angeles to lead distribution efforts for the network as part of the Affiliate Sales and Marketing team.
In 2003, Okosi transferred to the international Strategy and Business Development team in London where he developed the business plan and launched MTV’s first localised channel in Africa, MTV Base, in 2005.
Okosi would go on to spearhead the growth and development of the ViacomCBS business in Africa by launching additional channel brands tailored for the African market including MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, NickToons and BET.
Prior to joining YouTube, Okosi was the Executive Vice President and Managing Director of ViacomCBS Networks Africa and BET International.
He served as the Managing Director, Emerging Markets, YouTube EMEA, for three years until his appointment by the company as the new Managing Director of Google Africa.
