In a significant development for residents of Enugu State and the broader South-East region, the United Kingdom has established visa centres within the state. The Enugu State government heralded this achievement and expressed its profound gratitude to the United Kingdom Government for this remarkable initiative, which is set to simplify travel application processes.

The announcement was made through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, conveying the state government’s heartfelt commendation. The establishment of the visa centre is a tangible outcome of discussions between Governor Peter Mbah and the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, during the commissioner’s visit to the Government House in Enugu in June.

The government’s enthusiastic reception of the news underscores its recognition of the visa centre’s potential to foster stronger economic partnerships and cultural exchanges between Enugu State and the United Kingdom. The statement affirms the state’s eagerness to cultivate a robust and mutually beneficial relationship with the UK, with the visa centre playing a pivotal role in achieving this objective. It encourages residents, particularly those in the South-East region, to leverage this opportunity to submit their visa applications conveniently within the state.

Furthermore, the government underscores its commitment to enhancing security for both residents and visitors engaged in business activities within the state. It reiterates that Enugu State is open for business and investment, signaling its determination to create an enabling environment for economic growth.

This development follows the announcement made in June when the United Kingdom unveiled plans for a strategic partnership with Enugu State, focusing on key areas such as power, education, and public health to drive economic development. The collaboration, spanning over two decades, has been instrumental in areas such as public health sector reforms, education, and power sector improvements. The UK’s commitment to sustaining and deepening this partnership aligns seamlessly with Governor Mbah’s proactive approach to implementing reforms and his visionary leadership for the state, as evident in recent press reports.

As Enugu State welcomes the UK Visa Centre, it ushers in a new era of convenience, collaboration, and economic growth, underlining the enduring bonds between the state and the United Kingdom.
