Tragedy as Fulani militia storm Plateau community, killing 11 people



At least eleven persons have been killed by armed fulani militia who attacked the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The gunmen also set houses ablaze, and injured several others in community.

It was gathered that the gunmen suspected to be killer herdsmen invaded the Kulben community in Kunbum District of the council at about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2023, when the inhabitants were about to go to bed.

Sources close to the community disclosed that the gunmen, who were in their hundreds, went on a shooting spree and killed people at random, mostly those running for their lives.

The source said the operation lasted for more than an hour, adding that the gunmen also destroyed farm crops, burned down several houses, and injured many people, mostly children and women.

“Armed Fulani Militia attacked Kulben Community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government. The incident, which occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, left 11 people killed, others injured, and property destroyed,” the source told the Nigerian Tribune.

The eleven persons killed by the gunmen were given a mass burial at about 12:30 pm on Monday while those who sustained injuries were taken to the Mangu General Hospital for treatment.

The Chairman of the Mwaghavul Development Association in Kombun District, Dr. Elisha, also confirmed the attack.

“From the information I got, 10 people were killed during the invasion. I’m on my way to the village,” he said.
