The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a prominent socio-cultural organization, has voiced its discontent with the allocation of five ministerial slots to the South-East region by President Bola Tinubu.

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, expressed his dissatisfaction, labeling the distribution as both unfair and unjust.

In an official statement released on Thursday, Iwuanyanwu asserted that the South-East had been given an inadequate representation with just five ministerial positions, while other regions enjoy a minimum of six.

Highlighting the need for justice and equity, Iwuanyanwu emphasized that this lopsided allocation has placed the South-East in a precarious position across political, economic, and social spheres. The statement emphasized, “It’s important to recall that the states and geopolitical zones were established during the era of military administrations. It’s widely recognized that the Igbo community had limited influence during this process. Consequently, the South-East has been disadvantaged with only five states, while other zones enjoy a minimum of six states. This situation has significantly disadvantaged the South-East, impacting us politically, economically, and socially.”

“Our political representation has been curtailed, evident in the limited number of senators, House of Representatives members, governors, state legislatures, and local governments from our region. Moreover, in the distribution of federal revenue and appointments to federal boards, we consistently find ourselves strategically disadvantaged,” the statement continued.

The statement acknowledged that the current administration is not solely responsible for this situation, yet appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address and rectify the imbalance, restoring justice, equity, and fairness within Nigeria.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo remains resolute in its quest to secure equal and rightful representation for the South-East region, fostering a stronger foundation for unity and development across the nation.
