16-year-old Kamsiyochukwu Umeh Shatters Academic Records: How She Scored 8 A1s and a B2 in Crucial Exam

In a spectacular display of academic brilliance, Kamsiyochukwu Umeh, the prodigious young mind who claimed the top spot in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of 2023, has once again proven her unwavering excellence.

With a stellar performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), she achieved a remarkable feat, securing 8 A1 grades and a B2.

Hailing from Anambra State, the 16-year-old dynamo and student of Deeper Life High School in Mowe, Ogun State, showcased her intellectual prowess by clinching A1 distinctions in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics, Economics, Civic Education, Computer Studies, and Dyeing and Bleaching. In addition, she secured a commendable B2 grade in Physics.

Umeh had already stunned the educational realm by achieving an impressive cumulative mark of 360 in the UTME, where she excelled in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and English. Her outstanding accomplishment caught the attention of her state government, earning her a scholarship and recognition.

In a moment that underscored her exceptional achievements, Umeh was honored with a cash prize of N2.5 million by Chief Eric Umeofia, the Chief Executive Officer of Erisco Foods Limited, among other accolades. The ceremony took place on July 28, 2023, at the premises of the esteemed company in Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking about her accomplishments, Umeh humbly attributed her success to meticulous preparation and unwavering determination. She revealed, “I started reviewing past questions as soon as I entered SS3. And I prayed.” Her impressive triumph was further fortified by the dedication of her school’s exceptional teachers and the nurturing environment that fosters spiritual growth and academic excellence.

Acknowledging her parents’ unwavering support and encouragement, Umeh emphasized the pivotal role their involvement played in her success journey. “My parents were encouragers as well as my school,” she shared. “If someone wants to succeed, it’s a matter of determination and choice. No matter how encouraging parents or the environment are, it’s still the student’s determination that’ll make them succeed.”

Looking ahead, this young academic luminary has her sights set on studying Chemical Engineering, with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as her primary choice. She aspires to pursue postgraduate studies overseas, aiming for a Master’s and ultimately a PhD.

In the realm of inspiration, Umeh holds Pastor WF Kumuyi and Dr. Ben Carson in the highest esteem. She admires Pastor Kumuyi’s courage and eloquence, as well as Dr. Carson’s exceptional achievements and resilience.
