List of countries with highest birth rate

Published

on

The human birth rate is the number of individuals born per year per 1000 in the population. India has overtaken China as the most populous country but does not rank first in the world when birth rate is considered.

There are countries with high birth rates but lower populations, although it can be said some countries might have more birth rates than they reported due to their poor data collection.

Below is the list of countries with the highest birth rate per 1000 people according to the CIA World Factbook:

1. Niger – 46.86

Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world with minimal government services and insufficient funds to develop its resource base.

It is ranked last in the world on the UN Development Programme’s Human Development Index.

The population of the country as of 2023 is estimated at 27,252,789.

2. Angola – 41.42

Angola is a Southern African nation whose varied terrain encompasses tropical Atlantic beaches, a labyrinthine system of rivers and a Sub-Saharan desert that extends across the border into Namibia.

Its population as of 2023 is estimated at 36,738,984.

3. Benin – 40.72

4. Mali – 40.54 (tie)

5. Uganda – 40.27 (tie)

6. Chad – 39.85
