A 30-year-old man, Gbemi David, was on Monday docked in a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court for allegedly threatening his landlady’s life.

The police charged David with criminal intimidation, breach of trust, and cheating.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada told the court that the complainant, Hajiya Bilkisu Hassan reported the matter at the Zuba Police Station on May 2.

Ogada alleged that the defendant, who is a tenant of the complainant, refused to pay the balance for his rent for 2022.

He said the defendant threatened to kill the complainant anytime she asks for the payment.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 397, 322 and 312 of the Penal Code.

The defence counsel, Mr Stephen John, applied for bail for the defendant arguing that he remains innocent until proven otherwise and urged the court to grant the bail application.

The judge, Mr Saminu Suleiman, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety who must be resident, within the court’s jurisdiction.

Suleiman also ordered that the surety must be a public officer from Grade level 13 and should submit his last promotion letter to the court.

He adjourned the case until June 1 for hearing.
