Meet Saratu Umar, NIPC boss sacked by Buhari, GEJ for same reason

Barely few months to hand over, President Muhammadu Buhari sacked Hajiya Saratu Umar as the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).

Announcing the termination of Umar’s appointment, Femi Adesina, the President’s spokesman said Buhari in a directive to the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Richard Adebayo, mandated the most senior Director in the Commission to take over in the interim immediately.

However, there are reports Saraju Umar was sacked for reasons of competence crisis, poor management of the commission, and corruption allegations around her neck.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Umar will be facing similar fate.

Former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) during his tenure sacked Saraju Umar displaying gross incompetence and ineptitude in public service.

In January 2023, some NIPC directors called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to protect them from the Ms. Saratu Umar over allegation that she plans to use thugs to beat up, physically attack and inflict bodily harm on them and some members of staff of the commission.

Who is Saratu Umar?

Umar holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University and an MBA in Finance and Banking.
