His full name is Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, but he is popularly called Ladi Adebutu or “Omo Baba Ijebu”.

He is a Nigerian politician from Ogun State.

Ladi Adebutu was born on February 25, 1962, in Lagos, Nigeria. He is 61 years old as at 2023.

Oladipupo Adebutu was born in Lagos State. His father is the Balogun and Baba Oba of Iperu Remo, Akogun of Remo land, as well as the Olotu of Lagos.

He hails from the renowned Adebutu Family of Eti-Obale, Iperu Remo, and the Apondele royal family of Ode Remo, while the mother is the Yeye mode of Iperu Remo, Apesin of Lagos and Yeye Oba of Odogbolu and she hails from the Jaiyesimi Jaiye Okuwa family of Odogbolu.

Ladi was born into the family of Sir. Dr. Chief Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu (father), the Chairman of Premier Lotto Limited and owner of the popular ‘Baba Ijebu’ lottery. His mother is Dame Caroline Oladunni Adebutu (mother).

He is the first son of the family.

Wife

He is married to Omolara Adenike Adebutu.

Education

He started his elementary education at the International Day Nursery School, Yaba in 1964, before proceeding to St. Saviours Primary School, Oke-Ira, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

He later proceeded to Igbobi College where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1978.

Upon the completion of his Secondary Education, he travelled abroad, where he studied at St. Columbas College, Rathfarnham, Dublin, and obtained the Irish Leaving Certificate in 1980.

He commenced his tertiary education at the National Institute of Higher Education, Limerick, Republic of Ireland.

Ladi also attended the Regional Technical College at Athlone and Carlow in the Republic of Ireland between 1981 and 1984, where he obtained he obtained an Irish National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.

Adebutu returned to Nigeria in 1987 for his National Youth Service Corps programme. He served at Biu, Borno State.

Professional career

Ladi Adebutu is the Chief Executive Officer of JB farms – a piggery with over 23,000 pigs.

Narrating how he started, he said; “In 1991, I opted to be a farmer and started farming on a small scale with less than 100 animals. The modest farm has now grown to house over 26000 animals and employs over 2000 workers.”

Political career

At the Age of 30, he won his seat in the National Assembly in 1992 where he represented the Remo Federal Constituency under the umbrella of the now defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP).

He ran for Senate under the United National Congress Party (UNCP) in 1998 and the National Assembly in 2003, 2007, and 2011 as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He was appointed as Full-Time Commissioner II in the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission in September 2007.

In October 2007, he was upgraded to Full-Time Commissioner I.

He won the 2015 National Assembly election to represent the Remo Federal constituency. Ladi held a position in the House Committee on Rural Development.

He was a governorship candidate in Ogun State in the 2019 general elections under the Peoples Democratic Party.

Adebutu’s son is the 2023 governorship candidate of PDP in Ogun state.

Controversy

Endorsement of Abdulkabir Akinlade

Younger Adebutu, while being a lawmaker representing Remo Federal Constituency, adopted the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Abdulkabir Akinlade.

His father, Sir Kesington Adebutu rejected his endorsement.

“I wasn’t privy to his (younger Adebutu) meeting with Governor Amosun, neither did he inform me. I heard the news like every other individual and wondered what could have gotten over him. He is on his own on this move and does not have my support.”
