Labour Party wins first National Assembly seat

The Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Ginger Onwusibe of the Labour Party the House of Representatives member-elect for Isialangwa North and South Federal constituency in Abia State.

Ginger, a former Council Chairman, defeated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s preferred candidate and his immediate past Chief of Staff, Professor Anthony Agbazuere.

Similarly, the constituency is the home of the current Governor, Okpeazu, one of the aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, known as the G5-governors.

According to INEC, Ginger recorded 20,411 valid votes to win against his PDP opponent who polled a total of 13508 votes.

Ginger defeated the PDP candidate Professor Agbazuere, even in his Isialangwa South L.G.A.

Labour Party members are currently jubilating at the collation centre.
