Biography

Chief Oyibo Chukwu was a politician, legal practitioner and businessman.  He was a member of the Labor Party and the party’s senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District for the 2023 general election.

Oyibo was gruesomely murdered by unknown persons on the 22nd of February, 2023

Education

Oyibo Chukwu had his elementary education at St. Patrick School in Abakiliki before proceeding to Government College, Afikpo, for secondary education. 

He later enrolled at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to bag a degree in Law before heading to Nigeria Law School in Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984.

Professional Career

Oyibo Chukwu commenced his legal profession after graduating from the Nigeria Law School. 

He served as the Legal Adviser and Administrative Officer for Anilogun Nigeria Limited between 1984 and 1985. 

Then, he served as the Head of Chambers for Chimezie Ikeazor (SAN) and Associates from 1985 to 1988. He joined Chukwu, Chukwu and Associates in 1989 as a Senior Partner, where he is presently employed. 

From 1994 to 1996, he held the position of Local Government Administrator/Supervisor for Health in Nkanu LGA. 

Besides his legal profession, Oyibo Chukwu has also thrived as an entrepreneur. He founded KANVOC Nigeria Limited in 1990 and is currently its CEO. The company focuses on providing civil engineering and construction services.

Political Career

Oyibo Chukwu entered politics in 1990 when he was designated the State Auditor for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Enugu State. In 1992, he ran as a Gubernatorial Aspirant for the SDP in the same state and later became the Acting State Chairman of the party in 1993.

During the 1993 general election, Oyibo Chukwu contested as a Presidential Candidate for the SDP. Later in 1998, he vied for the position of Gubernatorial Candidate for the Congress for National Consensus (CNC).

From 1999 to 2000, he was assigned as the Acting National Auditor for the All-Peoples Party (APP). In 2009, he was appointed Assistant National Legal Adviser for Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, an organisation representing the Igbo people in Nigeria.

In 2023, Oyibo was the senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District for the 2023 general election before his gruesome assassination by unknown gunmen.

Oybo was married with children.
