Meet Yusuf Alimi: The Teenager in The Iconic Peter Obi Rally Photograph

It wasn’t just a photograph but a representation of passion and emotion. Yusuf Alimi’s act in the iconic picture gave everyone goosebumps and united all political rivals at least once ahead of the 2023 poll day in Nigeria.

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, concluded his presidential campaign for the 2023 general elections at its grand finale campaign at Tafawa Balewa square, Lagos on the 11th of February 2023.

What grabbed the attention of all political enthusiasts, including the opposition, was Yusuf Alimi, who ran to embrace Obi’s convoy like a son who was happy to see the return of his father, who had been away for years. Alimi was from Ibadan but was based in Lagos.

Everyone felt the emotion in the photograph, and the search for the kid began.

He was found after the rally and was interviewed. In his interview, he was asked why he ran towards the convoy. He said it was his love for Obbi that propelled him.

He also stated that he wished Obi would win the election. Further saying he’ll pray for Obi if he wins.

Alimi has become a sensation, and his photograph has gone viral. Thanks to Esther Umoh(Pendrops), the photographer who took the iconic shot.

Popular socialite Cubana Chief Priest announced on his Instagram page that he has a gift of cash to give to Alimi.

Another individual, Ifeanyi Onukwubiri, stated on Facebook that he has a gift of N100,000 for Alimi. He said, “This is the photo of the week. How can I get to this boy? I want to gift him 100k. It’s youth o’clock! I see hope for common persons coming back again!”

Alimi’s act is an indication that beyond politics, something more powerful still brings us together as Nigerians, even with our political or tribal differences
