What You Need To Know About The New Whatsapp Features

By Balogun Kamilu Lekan
WhatsApp has introduced new features, one of which is the voice note status, which allows users to record and share audio messages of up to 30 seconds as part of their status updates.

This feature was introduced to cater to the growing trend of users sending voice messages instead of text. WhatsApp data showed users sent an average of 7 billion voice messages daily.
The microphone icon on the status screen can be tapped to record a voice note status update.
Below are some other features recently released by the instant messaging platform:
Private Audience Selector
Recognizing that not every status update may be appropriate for all contacts, WhatsApp has introduced the ability for users to set privacy settings for each status update.
This allows users to choose who can see their status each time they post it in real-time. Also, users’ most recent privacy selection will be saved and automatically used as the default for their subsequent status updates.
Status Reactions
The status reactions give users a quick and easy way to respond to status updates from friends and close contacts. According to the company, this was the number 1 feature users wanted following the launch of “Reactions” last year.
Status Profile Rings
This feature ensures that users never miss an update from a loved one. This ring will appear around a contact’s profile picture whenever they post a status update and will be visible in chat lists, group participant lists, and contact information.
Link Previews on Status
WhatsApp also recently introduced a feature that generates a visual preview of the content of a link when it is posted on the status. This is similar to the way a link preview appears in a message. This feature enhances the appearance of statuses and gives contacts a better understanding of the link before they click on it. The company stated that these updates would be accessible to all users in the upcoming weeks.
