By Balogun Kamilu Lekan

Twitter has recently announced an update allowing its Blue subscribers in the US to tweet with a longer character limit of up to 4,000 characters instead of the regular limit of 280 characters.

The social media platform hopes this new feature will encourage more people to sign up for its subscription service, which costs $8 per month for Android users and $11 for iPhone users.

It’s important to note that while only Blue subscribers have access to long-form tweeting, all Twitter users can still read these tweets. The timeline will only display the first 280 characters, but users can click “Show more” if they want to read the rest of the tweet.

“While only Blue subscribers can post longer Tweets, anyone and everyone can read them. you can reply to, retweet, and quote Tweet a longer Tweet, no matter if you’re a Twitter Blue subscriber or not. Subscribers will be able to reply and QT with up to 4,000 characters.” Twitter said

Twitter also reiterated that its standard tweeting function still applied, the microblogging site said “Starting today, if you’re subscribed to Twitter Blue in the US, you can create longer Tweets.

most standard functions of Tweeting still apply, whether you want to post a picture, use a hashtag, or create a poll. but now you can type all the way up to 4,000 characters. for now, longer Tweets on web can’t be saved as drafts or scheduled to send later.”

While hoping that Twitter will expand this feature to subscribers from other parts of the world if it meets warm reception from the US audience
