Folarin Jerry Balogun is a professional footballer who plays for Ligue 1 club Reims, on loan from Arsenal FC.

He was born on the 3 July 2001 to Nigerian parents in  Brooklyn, New York, United States. Folarin is 22 years old as of 2023

The Centre-Forward who plays for the England U21 is known for his quick response and speed. He also has accurate control of his two feet when with the ball.

Born in the United States to Nigerian parents and raised in England, Balogun is eligible to represent all three nations at the international level. 

Club career

Balogun joined Arsenal at eight after being scouted while playing for his previous Sunday League side, Aldersbrook.

The player had a trial with Tottenham Hotspur before trying out with Arsenal. In 2019, he signed a professional contract with Arsenal.

In 2020, after negotiations for a new contract failed, he was linked to a transfer away from the club, including an £8 million sale to Brentford. He was able to reach an agreement with the club, nevertheless.

He made his senior debut for Arsenal in the Europa League in October 2020, scoring his first goal in November of the same year.

In 2021, he signed a long-term contract with the club and made his Premier League debut in August. In January 2022, he went on loan to Middlesbrough, and in August 2022, he was loaned to French club Reims where he became a key player.

International career

After playing for England at the under-17 level and appearing in the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, he got a callup from his country of birth, the United States. He represented the  under-18 national team side of the country in 2018 in a tournament in the Czech Republic.

The England under-18 national team later recalled him for another tournament in Dubai.

In October 2020, he made an appearance for the England under-20 against Wales. In 2021, Balogun received his first call-up to the England under-21 team.

When asked in an interview if he was related to Super Eagle’s defender, Leon Balogun. He said “Leon Balogun! We’re not related, but I’ve played against him before! It was in a pre-season friendly between Arsenal and Rangers a little over a year ago. By the way, we both had the number 26, so there were two Balogun number 26 shirts on the pitch.”
