The Director-General of the Labour Party 2023 Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe, has resigned his position.
This is coming hours after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him of money laundering (Read full story).
He was found guilty of receiving over N200 million cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki.
NewsWireNGR earlier reported that there are indications that the Labour Party (LP) may replace Doyin Okupe as the Director-General of its 2023 Presidential Campaign Council, following the development.
An impeccable source within the party, who spoke exclusively with Channels Television on Monday, confirmed that talks are already ongoing to replace Okupe.
The source, however, said the decision would be jointly taken by all concerned, including Okupe himself.
Although he declined to mention possible replacements, feelers have former presidential aide, Akin Oshuntokun as a front-runner to take Okupe’s position.
The resignation letter by Okupe which was addressed to Peter Obi reads in part; “I have invested too much in your campaign to allow my personal travails to become a source of distraction.
“In the circumstances, I have opted to step aside and plead that you appoint a new Campaign DG who can continue the assignment with zero distractions”.
