The governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, on Saturday commissioned a three-kilometre streetlights project along Siluko Rd and another 3.3km streetlights along Sapele Rd, in Egor and Ikpoba-Okha LGAs, respectively in the state.

Sharing pictures from the event, Obaseki said his administration is “committed to our people that we must light up Edo, and plan on extending the project to cover Iguoriahki, Igwuobazuwa and Okada within the next two years”.

The development has generated reactions on social media.

@DKojie: “Other GOVERNORS dey commission road and heavy project..Edo state government dey commission street light way local govt. Chairman dey commission for other states..Edo state who do us like this”.

@djdenver06: “Mr governor Sakponba road is in total darkness. The street light should be extended to that location.”

@KShugaken: “Commissioning street lights is not a new thing in Benin City, successive governments have built and constructed more than what we are seeing today. I think this is just another way of dishing out contracts to cronies as settlement. Street lights without maintenance is rubbish.”

@osej_emmy: “Projects like this when completed only announce it , please, no need for commissioning”.

@hayzed06: “Haaaaaaa, Your Excellency , a whole state gomina commission street light, when u are not a councilor or lg chairman, you no see wetin elrufai did just yesterday, BRT nd LIGHT RAIL together, Edo people una enter this once chance”.
