Most Dangerous Places in the World

There are many places that could easily be mistaken for reflections of paradise, but there are also areas where it is not advisable to walk due to the unknown dangers lurking around every bend.

If you’re looking for a vacation spot that is beautiful, adventurous and dangerous, here is a list of places to explore; prefer something safe? Check the ten most beautiful African cities to visit.

It is advised to avoid specific locations identified as the most hazardous travel destinations for anyone considering a global tour. But if you’re up for an exciting but terrifying adventure, these places are for you.

Snake Island, Brazil

Considered one of the deadliest places, Snake Island in Brazil is one of the most dangerous places on Earth. Ninety miles from Sao Paulo, this super deadly island is home to the largest concentrated population of snakes in the world.

Snake Island has about five snakes per square meter. It is said that snakes on this Brazilian island are so venomous that they can melt human flesh. This island is the only place in the world where the golden lancehead viper is found, and the most venomous snake in the world, the Bothrops, thrives.

Due to the extremely high risk for tourists and black market demand for lancehead venom, the Brazilian government has strictly prohibited visits to this location.

Skeleton Coast, Namibia

Where the earth ends is Skeleton Coast. Between the old German colonial town of Swakopmund and the Angolan border, the vast coast stretches for 500 kilometres.

The name suggests a formidable place; it may have been inspired by the numerous ships that have sunk here over the years and the animal bones strewn across the area’s broad strands.

Adventure tour companies in Swakopmund organise day trips along the southern portion of the Skeleton Coast as predators prowl the shore.

Gates of Hell, Turkmenistan

The scientists who unlocked the gates of hell erred in their calculations, creating a substantial man-made crater burning methane gas for decades. Some wise people made one of the deadliest decisions ever.

Since the fire will go out in a few weeks and the air quality will return to normal, the scientists reasoned that burning off the natural gas would be a quick fix to maintain the Karakum Desert’s air quality.

On the other hand, despite nearly 50 years having passed, the flames are still burning. Only those who don’t fear flames can imagine entering the Darvaza Crater or the Gates of Hell, the deadliest place on Earth, due to human error rather than a natural disaster.

Death Valley, USA

Death Valley is a scorching desert valley on the border of California and Nevada. It is regarded as one of the hottest locations on earth. Few deserts in the Middle East and Africa can compete with Death Valley when summer temperatures are at their highest.

In July 2018, the hottest place on Earth set a new record for the hottest month. With regard to overnight lows, the average temperature was 108.1°F. The daily highs reached 127°F four days a row, the highest recorded temperature.

Lake Natron, Tanzania

This lake is better known as one of the planet’s most hostile landscapes. Lake Natron in northern Tanzania resembles a lake of fire in appearance and behaviour. The lake’s waters can occasionally reach a ph level of over 12, which makes them corrosive to human skin and eyes due to the high levels of Natron (sodium carbonate decahydrate) in the water.

The lake’s distinctive pink-red hues result from the red-coloured bacteria it also contains. Even though most species cannot survive in the 120°C lake water, cyanobacteria have settled in Natron, giving the lake its recognisable red and orange hues.

Given that Lake Natron is one of their only breeding grounds, it is surprising that 2.5 million Lesser Flamingos, endangered species, call it home, further emphasising the importance of the lake’s preservation of the climate. It is one of the most dangerous places on earth.
