Chinko Ekun, real name – Oladipo Olamide Emmanuel, is a Nigerian rapper and songwriter. 

He was born on September 13, 1993, in Ikeja, Lagos State. Chinko Ekun is 29 years old as of 2022

The words “Chinko Ekun,” which make up his name, combine those two. Because he was constantly told he looked Chinese in college, he went by the stage name “Chinko.” His first song was “Ekun.”

He rose to prominence with his song  “Able God”, which won the street song of the year in 2019.

Education

Chinko Ekun attended Remade Nursery and Primary School in Igando, Lagos State, and Blessing Nursery and Primary School in Oshodi, Lagos State, for his elementary education.

He then proceeded to Baptist Model High School, Ijegun, Lagos State, for his secondary education before heading to Obafemi Awolowo University, where he bagged a law degree.

Career

Chinko Ekun discovered pop and rap music during his first year of college. Chinko Ekun’s music career began formally in 2011 when he uploaded freestyle videos to Instagram.

2013 saw the release of “Ekun,” his first official song. Chinko Ekun made an appearance on the songs “100 To Million,” “Bang,” and “Usain Bolt” from Olamide’s “Street OT album” in 2014. He appeared and gave a freestyle during Olamide Live In Concert (OLIC) 2014. Only singing hip-hop songs in English, Pidgin, and Yoruba is Chinko Ekun’s specialty.

In 2015, Chinko Ekun joined Olamide’s crew, YBNL Nation. He released “Alejo Oran” and “Emi Na Re,” his first official songs, via YBNL Nation on February 25, 2015. He and labelmates Adekunle Gold and Viktoh left the record company after their contracts expired just a year later. In 2017, he began working for the Dubai-based record label Dek-Niyor Entertainment.

On September 13, 2018, he released “Able God,” a song with Zlatan and Lil Kesh. The song earned him his first Headies award for “Best Street Hop Artiste” at the 2019 Headies. The song was also a finalist for the “Popular Song of the Year” category of the 2019 City People Music Awards. It won the “Street Song of the Year” award at the 2019 City People Music Awards.
