Notorious bandits terrorising the Northern part of the country have killed two people, abducted several others and set ablaze Gidan-goga market in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to reports, the terrorists on Wednesday stormed the market on motorcycles, set it ablaze and destroyed goods worth millions of Naira.

An indigene in the area, Mohammed Musa, narrating the incident, said, “They also killed two people and abducted several others, while many people sustained serious injuries”.

He added, “The terrorists arrived at the market when businesses were going on and began to shoot sporadically”.

“This caused a serious commotion as people ran for their dear lives, as a result of which  many have sustained serious injuries.”

Musa said, “The bandits later set the market on fire and moved to the forest with the people they have abducted.”

He maintained that the number of those abducted was yet to be ascertained because most of them were not from the village.

“Most of them came to the market from various places; as such, we are yet to confirm the number of abductees, but they might be more than 30,” he concluded.

There has been no official statement from the state’s police command at the time of filing this report.
