Biography

Lanre Adesina Hassan, popularly called Iya Awero, is a renowned award-winning Nigerian film actress and stage performer. 

She was born on October 3rd, 1950.

She has worked in over 100 Yoruba films since her career in the movie industry.

She has over 40 years of acting experience. She featured in both Yoruba and English Nollywood movies.

Education

Iya Awero had her elementary education at Oduwabore Memorial School, Mushin, Lagos and Children’s Home School in Ibadan before heading to Molas High School in Lagos Island for her secondary education.

She then proceeded to acquire a diploma from a School of Drama.

Career

Iya Awero joined the theater troupe Young Stars Concert Party at 14, along with other members Ojo Ladipo (also known as Baba Mero) and Adebayo Salami. Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group became their new name thereafter. To give her performance an intellectual edge and flair, she enrolled in the Lagos School of Dramatic Arts in 1970 under the guidance of Chief Olude, a well-known drama professor at the time.

She rose to prominence with her role in Comedy Half Hour, a well-liked television comedy series starring produced by the Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group.

 Her popularity has grown significantly, and she is now well-known across Nigeria.

Lanre is an outstanding actor who brings her parts to life in movies with imagination, style, and extraordinary talent. 

She is renowned for her motherly film roles. Lanre Hassan played “Iya Loja” in the 2018 film “King of Boy,” directed by one of Nigeria’s best female filmmakers, Kemi Adetiba.

Marriage

Iya Awero was married to the late Aliu Hassan Adesina, and they had three children together.
