Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, fondly called Binani, is a politician and entrepreneur. She is currently a senator representing Adamawa Central senatorial district in the 9th Assembly under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

Aisha was born on 11 August 1971. She was formerly a member of the House of Representatives representing the Yola North/Yola South/Girei federal constituency as a member of the People’s Democratic Party between 2011 to 2015.

Binani had her elementary and secondary education in Kaduna State before heading to the University of Southampton, where she obtained a Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.

Aisha is the founder of Binani Nigeria Limited, the Binani Group of Companies aimed at boosting and revamping the economy of the North East Region, where the senator originated.

She started her political journey in 2011 when she was elected as a House of Representatives member to represent Yola North/Yola South/Girei federal constituency as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

She later defected to the All Progressive Congress, where she won an election to emerge as the senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial zone in the 2019 general election.

As a senate member, Binani served as the chairperson Senate committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sen. Aisha Dahiru Ahmed Binani won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Adamawa State by defeating six male candidates and political heavyweights.

In the primaries, Binani earned 430 votes, the most in the election, to defeat Nuhu Ribadu, a former presidential candidate for the Action Congress and the first chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who received 288 votes.

Muhammadu Jibrilla Bindow, the outgoing governor, finished third with 103 votes, followed by Abdurrazaq Namda with 94 and Wafari Theman with 39.

Wafarniyi Theman and Umar Mustapha Madawaki secured the fifth and sixth spots in the competition, respectively.

Controversy

On the 14th of October 2022, a federal high court in Yola nullified the candidacy of Binani as the gubernatorial aspirant of the APC in Adamawa.

The court, in its ruling, declared that there will be no candidate for the APC in the state for the 2023 elections but said both petitioners and defendants are free to appeal the ruling.
