1. Former deputy governor of Imo, Ebere Udeagu, is dead [NewsWireNGR]

Ebere Udeagu, a former Deputy governor of Imo state, was on Monday confirmed dead at the age of 79.

According to reports, the former deputy governor complained of ill-health on Sunday morning and could not attend a church service.

He was later rushed to a hospital where he died in the early hours of Monday in Owerri, the state capital. Read more.

2. VIDEO: ASUU’ll call off 8-month-old strike soon — President [NewsWireNGR]

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),  Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has said that the union will soon call off its eight-month-old strike.

Osodeke said this at a meeting with the leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday in Abuja.

He said that from what the union had seen at the meeting “there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“This time around it is hoped that there would not be any persons or group to create issues that would make the union run into any hitch,” he said. Read more.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said women are the most loyal supporters of his political journey and tenure since 2015.

He stated this at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress Women Presidential Campaign Team in Abuja on Monday.

The president challenged members of the APC Women team to work hard in ensuring victory for the party in the 2023 general elections.

Buhari said the call had become imperative in view of the fact that there was no alternative to APC electoral victory in the 2023 presidential election.

”Throughout my political journey, and my tenure, as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, women have remained the most loyal, the most supportive group in my mission for a better Nigeria,” he said. Read more.

4. Over 116m people in Africa suffering from mental health conditions — WHO [NewsWireNGR]

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that more than 116 million people live with mental health conditions in Africa.

Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa, said this in Abuja in a message to mark the 2022 World Mental Health Day which has the theme, “Make Mental Health and Wellbeing for All a Global Priority”.

According to her, the day provides an opportunity to draw attention to Africa’s large and growing burden of mental health conditions, with children and adolescents most impacted. Read more.

5. Atiku campaign: PDP govs hit Uyo with 15 private jets [Punch Newspaper]

Governors, ex-governors, and top chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party in the camp of the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday, arrived in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, in no fewer than 15 private and chartered jets for the formal inauguration of the party’s campaign ahead of the 2023 poll.

Findings by The PUNCH indicate that aside from the Governors of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and his counterparts in Oyo State (Seyi Makinde), Benue State (Samuel Ortom), Abia State (Ikpeazu Okezie), and Enugu State (Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi), other governors elected on the platform of the party were present at the event.

The inauguration, which was held at the Nest of Champions International Stadium, was also attended by the party’s National Assembly members, and National Working Committee members led by the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, among other party stalwarts.
