VIDEO: Grammy mulls Award category for Afrobeat

Afrobeat singers may soon get a shot at Grammy Awards as indications have emerged the organisers of the Award are considering a category for the music genre.

The CEO of The Recording Academy, the organiser of Grammys Awards, Harvey Mason Jr., during his visit to Ghana, hinted at the likely development.

He noted Academy had met with leaders from the Afrobeats community, including producers, songwriters and singers.

According to him, in accordance with the Grammy Awards guideline, for a new category to be considered, it must be submitted through a proposal by members, and this has been fulfilled for Afrobeat.
