Arya Starr, real name, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, is a Nigerian singer and model.
She was born on June 14, 2002. Arya, a native of Kwara State, was born in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Her kind of music is categorized as Afropop and R&B. Arya delivers her music with a unique voice which has been described as “silky”, “cozy”, “delicate”, “sturdy”, “arresting” and “soulful”.
The lyrics explore a variety of languages like English, Pidgin English, and Yoruba, which cut across love, emancipation, relationships, and empowerment.
Arya holds a BA degree in international relations and political science from Les Cours Sonou University, Benin Republic.
Arya started as a model at 16 with Quove Model Management. She also worked with companies such as Mazelle Studio, Complete Fashion Magazine, and Esperanza Woman before drifting into music.
She started by remaking popular music and posting the covers on Instagram. In 2019, she uploaded her original song, “Damage,” which went viral and caught the attention of music executive Don Jazzy of Mavin Records, who signed her to the record label.
In 2021, Arya rose to prominence when she released her eponymous debut extended play and its hit track “Away”, which ranked number four on Nigeria’s TurnTable for two consecutive weeks and went to number 17 on US Billboard’s Top Triller Global.
Later in 2021, she released her debut studio album, 19 & Dangerous. “Bloody Samaritan,” the lead single from the album, climaxed on the Top 50 chart, becoming the first solo song by a female artist to reach the number-one position. Starr debuted on the Pandora Predictions chart, and on August 28, 2021, she ranked number two on Billboard’s Next Big Sound.
